Layout of Belfast Central library

I'm writing about a charictor who works in Belfast central library, Modern day.

I've managed to find a good indicator of what sections the library is split into, what it looks like, and roughly what it contains.

However I can't seem to locate a basic floor plan, such as which floors contain what. I know this seems pedantic but quite alot of this ( Read more... )

Ouch. I haven't been in there in ages. Hmm, when you walk in there are stairs going up to your right and a lift to your left, then a main reception area. From there, left is the computer room, straight on is fiction, and to the right...bathrooms? Maybe? First floor is non-fiction, and quieter. And I think there's a second floor, but I've never been up there. Damn, I'm sorry I can't be more helpful, I've only been in it once or twice.

What are you writing? It's ridiculously awesome that there's a story set in belfast. I've only ever read one :D

Nope! This is all good stuff :D Thank you. It's certainly a starting point.

I'm writing a piece of Doctor Who fanfic (which probably kills the excitement slightly)and one of my main charictors is Irish. Not being Irish myself I've got quite a bit of research to do, but that's half the fun!

I'm on dial-up, and dial-up in country Australia is slow, slow, slow, so I haven't followed the links, but I tried adding "layout" and "floor plan" to your search terms and came up with quite a few possibilites.

Alternatively, try e-mailing the library itself - Melbourne State Library, for instance, has an "Ask a librarian" service, and most librarians are pleased to get a query that isn't "Have you got this book? I can't remember the author or title, but it's got a green cover."

...I actually hadn't thought of using those as search tearms. Really though that might have got me a bit more information. I'll go look into those now, thank you!

As for you second suggestion that's quite a good idea. I'm pretty sure they'd know what the inside of the Library looked like xD

Thanks for your help!

Not exactly an answer to your question, but have you thought about contacting the library directly and asking them if they've got floorplans and other useful leaflets they could send to you?

(Also, it's "character", just so you know :) )
