I'm writing about a charictor who works in Belfast central library, Modern day.

Now there's a thought. There has to be somewhere in my city i'd be able to get hold of a book like that. It dosen't have to be a 'floor plan' per se, I just want a general idea of the buildings layout.

Thank you for the suggestion :D

The ground floor of Belfast Central Library starts with the information desk at the front door, there is a Cafe (Chapter One), Central Lending, the Learning Gateway (IT suite) and a foyer with exhibition space aong with toilets. next flor is the domed reading room containing Gernal Reference and on the Top floor the Belfast, Ulster and Irish studies deparment (Local History) and almost defunct Music Library. two separate book stacks are at the back of the library containing 20 miles of shelving - i know, i work there!

go to www.libraries-ni.net and email General reference deparment in Belfast Central Library - they are always very helpful and can give you a full load of infomation. Belfast Central Library is really three buildings - the big Victorian one that fronts Royal Avenue and two modern-ish buildings housing stock and office space. The whole institution is under considerable threat at the moment because of spending cuts and the re-orgnization of public libraries in Northern ireland which has marginalised Belfast services a lot.
