Are you going with the city police or the university police? Big differences, there. Depending on the size of the university, the accreditation of the police department (and whether it's a public or private university), it could be either/or, though there would certainly be some crossover.

I can give you tons of details about murder on a university campus in the U.S., as well as basic police interview procedure, but I don't know how it would translate to Canada, I'm afraid.

At this university there is only campus security. I will look into procedures they take though, because it seems to me now that the character, being a prof., would most likely call them first. Any details you felt were relevant would be helpful though. Thank you!

not at all sure it's factual but Da Vinci's Inquest is a Canadian show about a coroner in Vancouver- it must be based on something because it /feels/ right and the places it differs from US dramas are real clear.

have you googled the specific kind of interview: first interview of a witness to a murder, canada? or put it out on your own lj for any canadian friends you have to answer?

googling canadian police witness interview procedures got some intriguing looking links ( ... )

Thank you on the tips for googling, really. They will make the rest of this story much easier to write. Teach a person how to catch a fish, and all that.

I never followed DVs Inquest, but I may have to look into it now, as the university is just a ferry ride away from Vancouver. Again, I'm glad you mentioned it, I would never have remembered it.

Thanks!

i love DV inquest. some of the best writing and character development going, and marvelous direction/editing as well.

there are the McGill sniper murders what, now, 25 years ago? dunno if those would be any use to you... sad day, that.

and i LOVE That icon, too (she said sleepily, having just gotten off work, and using a few stolen moments to catch up on mail).
