Summary: His life turned around the moment he met Yunho.
Jaejoong glanced at Yoonhee before he turned his eyes to Yunho, “What are you talking about? I didn’t know -“
“I should leave,” Yoonhee said softly as she tucked back a strand of her hair and kept her eyes trained onto the floor, “I shouldn’t be here -“
“Yes, you shouldn’t be here!” Yunho yelled angrily, “Get out -“
Jaejoong stepped between the siblings and pushed Yunho back, “Hey, don’t talk to her like that. Yunho, what the hell is wrong with you?”
Yunho pushed away Jaejoong’s arm and stepped forward, but before he could move any further, Jaejoong pushed him away from Yoonhee, allowing her to slip out the front door and leave.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” Jaejoong demanded as he pushed Yunho again, his temper raising the longer Yunho kept him in the dark, “I don’t know what happened between you two, but you shouldn’t treat your sister like that!”
Yunho pushed Jaejoong aside and began to walk away.
“Hey, don’t walk away from me!” Jaejoong insisted as he followed Yunho through the corridor, “Talk to me! Stop leaving me in the dark -“
Yunho turned around sharply and pointed at Jaejoong, “Don’t you dare bring her back here again. This time was a mistake, but I want nothing to do with her anymore, and you better not meddle -“
“Are you telling me what to do?” Jaejoong snapped, “Well you can’t. I don’t think this is fair! Why are you keeping me in the dark?”
“I don’t want to talk about it -“
“So when will you talk about it then?” Jaejoong pressed as he took a step forward, “So, what? You don’t trust me enough to talk about what happened with your family? Is that it Yunho?”
“It’s complicated -“
“Well my life was a fucking complicated mess when I first met you, but I trusted you enough to tell you about it!” Jaejoong shook his head at Yunho and muttered, “I’m just going to go. I’m not coming back until you’re willing to talk to me about what happened with your family."
“You can’t just go,” Yunho said as he followed Jaejoong, “I’m sorry -“
Jaejoong turned around, “Are you going to talk to me about your family?” he asked, and when Yunho’s answer was silence, he sighed. “Listen, I…I want to be here for you, okay? If you don’t trust me enough to tell me about what happened to you, I can’t help you.”
“Are you coming back tonight?”
Jaejoong nodded and picked up his wallet off the table, “Of course.”
“I’m sorry for shouting at you,” Yunho said softly, and as Jaejoong studied him, he noticed how defeated Yunho looked. “I shouldn’t have. I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay,” Jaejoong murmured.
They stood in awkward silence for a few more seconds before Jaejoong turned around and headed for the door. He held onto the door knob as he opened the door, and he paused to look at Yunho before he left.
“You do know that you can trust me, right?”
Yunho nodded slowly, “I know.”
Jaejoong smiled faintly, “I love you.”
“I love you too.”
They stared at each other for a few seconds before Jaejoong turned around and left, hoping that Yunho would be able to reveal what ever secrets he was hiding from him.

Jaejoong paused when he noticed that Yoonhee was still with the children. He sped up and as soon as she heard the sound of his shoes crunching on the gravel of the pathway, she turned her head and looked at him. She stood up immediately, and just as she was about to call for her daughter, Jaejoong reached out to hold her wrist.
“I’d like to talk to you,” he said softly.
Yoonhee cast her gaze down to the ground, “I couldn’t leave the children alone in the park. I was hoping to leave before you came, but -“
“It’s okay,” Jaejoong assured her before he let go of her wrist and gestured for her to sit back down on the bench.
He sat down next to her, and he watched as Eunyoung and Chaerin ran around Horan, completely unaware of the events that had transpired only minutes beforehand. Jaejoong took a deep breath and glanced at Yoonhee, who was still avoiding his gaze completely.
“When was the last time you saw your brother?”
Yoonhee bit her lip, “Years ago, before he left for Seoul.” She clenched her hands tightly on her lap and sighed, “I don’t think I should be the one telling you about what happened. It should be my brother -“
“I know, I know,” Jaejoong replied calmly. He let her relax a bit before he asked her another question, “Did you know that I’m your brother’s…boyfriend?”
Yoonhee shook her head, “I didn’t know.” She glanced at Jaejoong and let out a sigh filled with regret, “I should just leave. When I first came to Seoul…I wanted to find my brother again, and it’s obvious that he wants nothing to do with me. I need to bring Chaerin back to our neighbor’s house, and my son will be done with his play date -“
“May I have your number?”
Yoonhee shook her head and stood up, “I think…no more contact is best. After all, you’re not responsible for what happened between my brother and I -“
“As your brother’s boyfriend, I think…” Jaejoong sighed and looked up at her, “It would be good if I had some way to contact you. I know this may qualify as meddling, but I think that -“
Yoonhee shook her head, “I can’t, I’m sorry.”
Jaejoong stood up just as she was about to head for the children, and he gently reached out to take hold of her wrist. “Your brother is a good man. If I talked to him about what happened, I am sure I could -“
Yoonhee sighed, and she slowly pulled away from Jaejoong, “I’m sorry. You are absolutely correct. My brother is a good man, and it’s because of that why I shouldn’t contact him and should just leave him alone.”
“So you’re happy for things to remain this way?” Jaejoong asked even though he was well aware that he was stepping into private matters. He took his phone out of his pocket and handed it to her, “I promise that I won’t bother you if ever Yunho does not want to reconcile with you.”
The younger woman looked at Jaejoong hesitantly before she sighed and reluctantly entered her number into Jaejoong’s phone. She handed it back and took a hold of Jaejoong’s hand, “I hope…I hope things go well.”
“Me too.”
Yoonhee smiled faintly at Jaejoong before she turned away to call Chaerin. As she walked away, Eunyoung and Horan both ran up to Jaejoong and pulled at the sleeves of his shirt.
“Why do you look so confused?” Horan questioned, “Are you tired Uncle Joongie?”
“You look like you need a nap.”
Jaejoong sighed softly and watched as Yoonhee walked away, “I don’t think a nap could fix things girls.” He knelt down and smoothened back their hair, “But don’t worry about Uncle Joongie, okay?”
The twins pouted and Horan spoke, “We worry because we love you.”
Jaejoong smiled and pulled the girls into a tight hug. He felt their arms wrap around his body, and he relished the comfort of their closeness as he replied softly, “I know, I know.”

As soon as the girls ran back inside, Jaejoong looked around the house to find his sister. He watched as the twins rattled off about their adventure with Chaerin, and as soon as they were done and had run off, he walked over to his sister and began to chop vegetables.
Sohyun wiped her hands on her apron, “Thanks for picking up the girls and taking them to school today.”
Jaejoong kept his eyes on the chopping board, “It was no problem -“
“Okay, what’s wrong?”
Jaejoong sighed and put the knife down. He looked at Sohyun, and she crossed her arms as she leant against her refrigerator. Jaejoong drummed his fingers on the chopping board and sighed again, “You could tell?”
“Yes, I could, now please tell me what’s wrong.”
Jaejoong shifted under the weight of her stare, “Yunho’s being…he’s not telling me about what happened with his family. I accidentally brought his sister back to our apartment today, and he shouted…things got messy.”
Sohyun raised an eyebrow, “That doesn’t seem like usual behavior from him.”
“I know…it’s why I was concerned,” Jaejoong muttered tiredly, “But he doesn’t seem to want to talk about it. I’ve tried since last Christmas, but he refuses to even talk about his family.”
“Well, it’s not that easy to get someone to talk about those kinds of things…” Sohyun walked over to Jaejoong and began to continue cooking, “I don’t think you should push him if he is being so tight lipped about it.”
“I’m just frustrated.”
“Pushing him about the matter won’t help though,” Sohyun advised, “He’ll have to talk to you about it on his own.”
“But when will that be?” Jaejoong questioned irritably, “Does he not trust me enough? Or I know, maybe he doesn’t think I’m worthy enough to know -“
“Jaejoong, don’t be like that.”
He sighed and ran his hands through his hair, “I’m sorry, but I just…it frustrates me that I trusted him enough to talk about my life, yet he can’t bring himself to just be honest with me. I don’t want him to pretend everything is okay when it isn’t. I know what it’s like to bottle up everything inside and I don’t want him to just…”
Sohyun put down her things and wrapped her arms around Jaejoong tightly, allowing him to seek comfort in her embrace. He buried his head into her shoulder, and she rubbed his back soothingly, “He’ll be okay Jaejoong. He has you after all, right?”
“What if I’m not good enough?” Jaejoong muttered softly, “What if I’m not enough to help him get through -“
His phone began to ring, and Jaejoong moved away from his sister to pick up his phone. He glanced down at the caller and immediately picked up the call.
“Can you come home?” Yunho asked softly, his voice sounding weak.
“Of course, I’ll go back now,” Jaejoong replied, his voice fraught with worry. He glanced at his sister with a fearful expression, “I’ll be there soon.”
o-o-o
Jaejoong unlocked the door quickly, and when he was inside the apartment, he quickly searched for Yunho. He found the other man lying down on the bed, and he ran over to his boyfriend.
He shook Yunho awake, “Are you okay?”
Yunho said nothing and wrapped his arms around Jaejoong, pulling him closer. He breathed in the scent of Jaejoong’s cologne, and Jaejoong wordlessly hugged Yunho tighter.
Jaejoong tilted his head, and he noticed a crumpled note lying beside the bed. He stared at it for a few seconds, and just as he was about to say something about it, Yunho moved them both around.
“I’m sorry,” Yunho whispered, “I’m sorry.” He continued to repeat his apologies, and Jaejoong responded merely by rubbing Yunho’s back gently and murmuring that things would be okay.
His heart clenched tightly in his chest, and as Jaejoong watched the man he loved act so weak in front of him, he wished that things would truly be okay.
o-o-o
Jaejoong woke up in the middle of the night, feeling slightly restless. He felt around for Yunho, but the other man wasn’t on the bed.
He squinted in the darkness at the alarm clock on Yunho’s side of the bed. He rubbed his eyes - it was only a quarter past one, and Yunho never got up that early. He always slept easily, and Jaejoong always woke up earlier than him, so it was a surprise for him to be missing.
Just as he was about to leave the bed, the door opened, and Yunho entered quietly. Jaejoong stared at him and wondered why he hadn’t said a single word when it was obvious that he was awake.
“Yunho?”
Yunho stiffened, and Jaejoong watched him carefully as it seemed like the other man had only just become aware of his consciousness.
“Why are you awake?” Yunho asked softly as he moved faster and slipped back into bed with Jaejoong. He gently beckoned Jaejoong to lie down, and as usual, Jaejoong followed and made sure to move closer so that Yunho could embrace him tightly. Yunho buried his face into Jaejoong’s neck, and Jaejoong leaned into him.
“I noticed you were gone.” Jaejoong said quietly as he turned his head in an attempt to look at Yunho.
Yunho was being oddly clingy - while he usually spooned or embraced him, it had never felt so...desperate before. It was like he was afraid that something from underneath the bed would snatch Jaejoong away from him forever.
“Yunho, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing’s wrong.”
If Jaejoong hadn’t felt so sleepy, he would’ve pressed further for an answer. Unfortunately, sleep had begun to claim him the moment Yunho had slunk back into bed and taken him into his arms.
Jaejoong moved closer, “You have to tell me in the morning.” He said drowsily as he began to fade out of consciousness. Yunho’s reply was incoherent to his state of mind, and the words were lost.
As he drifted off, he vaguely wondered if the wetness he’d felt from Yunho’s face had just been a product of his sleepy mind.
