Picspam: Nuremberg zoo, 9 April 2015

Jul 02, 2015 13:48

I had promised this to nutmeg3 already a month ago, and I am sorry I'm only coming around to it now. In a minute I'll also post another picspam from my visit to Leipzig zoo in late May, but first, as the header says, it's the Nuremberg zoo.

I was lucky enough to have the first proper warm day of the year off, and because I really needed the downtime, I decided to spend it at Nuremberg zoo. Because I also wanted to drop by the Toys R Us store on the way (so I'd get a VIP access armband for a signing session with WWE's Cesaro that would be held about two weeks later), I didn't take the train, but the car. And you know what? It was the first and last time I'll ever do that. Parking at Nuremberg zoo is horrendous. They have a big parking lot in the woods, but because so many people can't park properly, it was completely packed by the time I arrived (which was around 10.30 - 11 am). Thank God I only have a tiny car and thus did find a tiny spot where I could park, but others with bigger cars weren't quite so lucky.

And at the end of my day at the zoo, madness was even worse, because there is only one way out of the parking lot, and because Germans hate to queue, no matter whether on foot or in cars, it was pure chaos getting out. It took me about 45 mins to get off the parking lot, and another 30 mins to get to the big ring road leading me out of Nuremberg. So yeah, next time I'll go to the zoo, I'll take the train again. It's so much easier and so much more convenient!

Apart from the traffic problem the day at the zoo was amazing. It was really packed, but the crowd spread out across the zoo's whole area, so it wasn't too bad. The biggest crowds were at the polar bear enclosure where the latest cub, Charlotte, was out and about with her mum, Flocke, and at the dolphin lagune where the newest offspring was also swimming rounds with its mum (I believe the baby dolphin is also a girl, but I'm not sure about this). My favourite parts were the lizard house, the owl enclosures (of course), the red panda and the lion. They were downright amazing. At the cheetah enclosure, I had one of the luckiest moments in my history of zoo photography, when two of the cheetahs got up to walk around the enclosure, and for a precious split second walked next to one another and seemed perfectly in sync - and that was when I pressed the shutter and thus captured that amazing moment. Talk about a lucky shot! Other highlights included the manatees and a tiger treading water.  But maybe you'll have other shots that you like best.

Anyway, enough babble, let's start with the pictures. As there are many, I'll put them under the cut, but before I do:

- All photos were taken by me, little___hobbit
- If you want to take/share any, or use them for artistic means, go ahead, but please always give credit to me when doing so.
- Please do not hotlink.

And now, here come the pictures.
