1) For some reason, while I adore 'regular' fiction (and I am keenly aware that's an incredibly generalized term and means pretty much jack all, but I've got nothing else to describe fiction at large that's designed for the adult audience), I have yet to fully let go of YA lit.
I'm currently find myself curious about

...Rae's Mom's RIDICULOUSLY delicious turkey-soup-in-a-Katt-sized-vat dinner.
I am envisioning this vat, imagining this turkey soup, and now I am salivating. Thank you.

Ten chapters in, and I have to say I'm (at the very least) intrigued. The four boys who are the protagonists are the epitome of the 'troubled, but cute' trope, and there's some really fascinating play with Welsh mythos. Blue, the female protagonist, actually has a smaller role so far than I thought she would. I kind of like this shake-up. I'm almost a quarter of the way through, according to my e-reader, so it seems pretty solid that way. So far.
...though I am totally calling some oncoming plot twists. We'll see if I'm right.
And now I totally have to hear this. Hi, ho, google away!

The male protagonist is starting to grate on my nerves a little bit (I think he's verging on white-knighting for his poorer friend, and he's most certainly an obsessed prodigy...I'm waiting for the inevitable tragic back-story to emerge -- all his friends have one. Just trot his out before I grow more irritated), but not enough to put the book down, as it were. In fact, I think an argument could be made that this grating is something that's keeping me reading: JUST TELL ME WHAT'S GOING ON BECAUSE I WANT TO KNOW. Well, that, and his friends.
It's incredible. This main group of four guy-friends is interesting and you honestly want to see what happens to them, but they're not entirely likeable. You understand where they're coming from, you empathize, but you don't necessarily like them. And like I said, they all fit the 'cute, but troubled' trope to a t. Regardless, these unlikable guys pique interest. I'm really not used to this sort of set up ( ... )
