Was a whole different game being played back when I was a kid.

Effing nostalgia.

I spent last night thinking about all those TV shows I'd enjoyed in my late adolescence/early teens. I have had much better ideas, the majority of which have not resulted in this kind of headache.

"Delta State" was the major one I thought about. It followed the story of four twenty-something amnesiacs with various psychic powers. If ( Read more... )

Oh Cybersix! Who can forget THE BEST DAMN hiding-in-pain-sight secret identity ever. And also, one's kindergarten cousin & a big fan loudly proclaiming "I LIKE CYBERSEX!" in the middle of a party.

INORITE? I kind of loved the show for that. Especially the super-flat-chested male persona, and the SUPER BOOBALICIOUS CURVACEOUS CYBERSIX. Because that's totally how it works, folks.

I hope you're happy. I just spat some of the decaf the parents made for our guests out on my desk. OMIGOD. I think I'm actually ashamed to admit that I'd pay good money to see the expressions on people's faces at that moment.

Man, the look on the elders' faces. Then they looked at ME like I controlled her internet activities.

For reals though, that was one of the most interesting concepts in the secret identity trope. The black panther as a brother thing happens all the time but to cross-dress For Great Justice? THAT was awesome.

Please forgive me, as I am suppressing snickers.

Cross-dressing and For Great Justice made that show the piece of awesome as it was. Mainly because of the ass-kickery (because let's face it; Cybersix kicked ass, took names, and made that big floppy hat look GOOD. I still want to know how that stayed on during fight sequences), and partially because of the shenanigans that ensued. I rather enjoyed the awkward conversations between Cybersix in her male get-up and the other teacher, Lucas, where Lucas is rasping poetic about how wonderful Cybersix is and how much he luuuuuuuuuuuuurves her.

1. Oh Our Lady Peace... WTF happened to you after that first album? The second one was all right, but... Oy.

Ah well.

2. Oh Nostalgia... It's why I'm going to spend a good two to three hours of my trip home in my bedroom beating The Goonies II on my NES. Woot!

Much Music Big Shiny Tunes albums. I can still remember the first time I heard Blur's "Song 2" on that channel; it was kind of like finding true love. Good times, good times.

Oh, BST CDs. I'm pretty sure I have some of those lying around somewhere.

A hallelujah amen to Blur, by the way. How could you not love and rock out to that "WOOO-HOOOOO!" part of the chorus?

Are you counting "Naveed" as the first album? While that was great ('Starseed' and 'Naveed' were beautiful songs), I maintain "Clumsy" will never not be an awesome album. I could listen to that one front to back and not be disappointed. Either it's aged well, or I haven't. I think the point where they veered way to the left was somewhere around or after "Spiritual Machiness".

Isn't it funny how we get that way? Seeking out shows/music/whatever that we haven't thought of in years, just because.

At least, for the most part, what you're remembering isn't horrifically embarrassing. '90s boy/girl bands and seriously campy (and not in a good way) TV would be much, much worse.

I hope you enjoy what you've managed to track down.

It is kind of funny. I'm wondering if we do it on occasion just to re-experience the wonder and glee we felt the first time around because we miss that feeling.

Don't write me off just yet. I have some horrifically embarrassing bits too. "Vampire High"? "Big Wolf On Campus"? "Student Bodies"? "Are You Afraid of the Dark"? Pretty much everything on YTV after eight or nine back when the channel wasn't crap? I could go on. I really could.
Yeeeeeeah. That's a case of 'old enough to know better, young enough not to give a damn', I think.

I'd have to agree. Although, the fact we're old enough to experience nostalgia makes me feel really, really old. I'm not even 30. WTH?

I remember "Big Wolf On Campus" and "Are You Afraid of the Dark"! Not so much on the other two, though. Another one would be the "Goosebumps" TV show. I vaguely remember watching a few episodes, before they started doing the movies.

You're so very right. It hardly seems possible that even in my twenties, I'm still old enough to do the nostalgia bit. Whatever though. Dorking out nonetheless ( ... )

Isn't Deepwater Black the one with Gordon Michael Woolvett? I've WANTED to see that, but never have.

Yep. That's the one. And if you ever do come across, say, a torrent or anything, I'd be much obliged if you were to share. I'd be happy to do the same for you should I actually find it.

Just give me a second here to squeal a little though -- I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO REMEMBERS DEEPWATER BLACK.

DUDE! Delta State was awesome!!!! (And you can totally have Phillip as long as I get Martin.) Plus the animation was way cool. They did the whole thing with drawing over filmed frames, and I just remeber all the orange in the colour scheme. I was so sad when it got cancelled.

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEE! You remember it too!

Martin is SO yours. I have a crouching moron hidden badass thing, and I think Phillip counts there. Plus I just kind of loved him. And still may after watching all those Our Lady Peace music videos made for him.

It was such a beautiful looking show. I think it's cancellation was probably the first time I screamed at a TV, but I'm not sure. It sounds about right.

Deal here -- you find a torrent, you share. I find one, I share. Fair?
