I have a collection of stars on my hip and then subsequently gained about fifteen pounds and then lost it. The top star stretched a little bit, but I think the skin of your hips is in such an odd area that isn't prone to stretching or weight gain (depending on the body type, I guess), that if you have the text low enough you should have, at most, a little bit of minor warp to the text.
But, for what it's worth, I agree with the commenter who suggested your wrists or clavicle rather than hips. I think wrists are pretty awesome places for "pair" tattoos. Also, they're a lot easier to see that the two are supposed to go together.
Instead of choosing a font, I'm going to have a friend of mine who's a graphic design major at RISD draw letters up for me, which is going to be very exciting!
