This place is heaven, isn't it?
I just found this community through a google search and am already in love. I've been thinking about my first tattoo for almost half a year now, and I'm pretty sure I want to go with something based off of a Tom Robbins quote in Still Life With Woodpecker, "There are only two mantras. Yum and yuk. Mine is yum." Not only is this one of my all-time favorite books, but it's been getting even dearer to me lately since I have a boyfriend who really hates reading but he lets me read Still Life to him out loud. We're about halfway through. When we're finished, I want to get my tattoo. :)
So I need a little help. What I want to do with the quote is get "yuck" (yes, with a c, i like it better that way) and "yum" as sort of twin tattoos somewhere on my body. My impulse right now is to go for the hips, just above the hipbones, BUT I know that I want to have a baby someday and am super nervous about stretch marks. Since it's my first tattoo and I'm still inching myself into the water, I don't know if I'm ready to put them somewhere as out-in-the-open as, say, my shoulders, which I think would be a much less risky place in terms of stretch marks. However, I do plan to get many more tattoos eventually, all, I believe, literary ones. Instead of choosing a font, I'm going to have a friend of mine who's a graphic design major at RISD draw letters up for me, which is going to be very exciting!
So I have two questions:
1. Has anybody here gotten text tattooed on their hips and then undergone weight gain or pregnancy? Did you experience much stretching, and could you still read the words afterwards?
2. Anybody have any other ideas for placement?
Thanks so much! :)
