To say that Ava was a little surprised to get a package at her room was to put it mildly, confusion running across her features as she took the small box and the note. She sat down on the edge of her bed, her head tilted to the side as she opened the box and saw that it was a Tiffany's Box. She arched a brow as she opened the box and then she found the necklace, her features softening.
It was the note that put her into tears and she grabbed her phone, dialing his number. As soon as he answered, she gave a little sniff, "I love it, it's gorgeous. I love you."
James was relaxing on his couch with Dodger's head on one leg, Ollie's on the other when he felt his iPhone go off. Ollie raised his head and gave a small glare at his owner, to which James ducked his head apologetically and fished the electronic out of his pocket.
"Sorry, sorry," he muttered to his dog, who replaced his head on his lap as soon as the iPhone was out of James' pocket. He smiled at seeing whose name and picture was on the screen, and hit the "Answer" button. He brought it to his ear, he was greeted with her voice and her telling him that she loved him.
"I take it you got the package then?" he asked innocently.
She let herself laugh as she nodded her head even though he couldn't see it, her finger running lightly against the necklace as she smirked to herself but remembered to keep her voice even.
"I did. It's so beautiful, a little smaller than my usual ring size but it shouldn't be hard to fix." She was surprised that she didn't laugh, humor didn't even show. "The diamond is perfect. It's even prettier than my promise ring was."
James was about to laugh but then blinked. And went silent. And sat up a little straighter. His two companions whined as their pillow moved and shifted around. He cleared his throat as he stood from the couch and walked over to the rear door so he could look out onto the view of the city.
".. I. Uh." He didn't even know how to respond to that. Had she gotten the wrong package? He had picked the necklace out himself, and had seen the man wrap it up. He had brought it to the post office to mail .. So, why was she talking about a ring? And a diamond one, at that.? "Your, uh, your usual ring size, did you say?"
