This song is giving me existential angst. "To you the next best thing to playin' and winnin' is playin' and losin'." and also "you look at the world though your smiling eyes." I have rose-colored glasses, please someone confirm this.

Anyway.

the guys shared a marbled room in a fortifed palace graphically decorated with extracts from the Karma Sutra

My brain jumped right to "omg slash"... (And isn't it "Kama Sutra"?)

Really good cute drabble! *hearts* Hee.

I like the quote from Agamemnon too. Wish I new more about those stories--I meant to read my dad's copy of the Iliad last year after "Troy" came out, but got distracted by shiny SF. I want to quote Cherryh at you, about the mri and the Belter rab, for some reason, but am not coherent enough to say what I want to. So, just, one agrees with you, nadi!

I know, our brains are switched to "gosh, that would be a good set up for some lovin'." Except that I will never speak of this again, because it is my minister.

I've always spelled it "Kama Sutra" as well,(not that I have to spell it very often) but the newsletter has "Karma," so I figured, in the interest of accuracy, to write it their way.

I've gone to a lot of ritzy schools where we have to have some education in the Classics (thankfully, I escaped Latin and Greek classes) so I have read all of those. I would suggest, if you're still interested in them, to use...oh, it's back in print now, D'Aulaires Book of Greek Myths which, has its shortcomings, but gives you all the clues to get Classical references, even the ones in say, Odyssey. Iliad is a bit of a slog, but there is some genuinely good stuff in there. I'd also keep Lysistrata handy, not only because it will cheer you up, but also because it is funny, and the pacifistic women triumph in the end.
