A nice quiet evening of being yelled at, RP with Kwan

Sep 09, 2007 13:54

As soon as Lancer knew Ms. Manson had the video footage of the lake's deep one trying to catch ducks he knew he was in some sort of trouble. As soon as he saw Kwan's reaction to the footage hitting the internet Lancer knew where that trouble was coming from ( Read more... )

When he saw Sam's post on her journal, Kwan had a sinking feeling in his gut, like he had just swallowed a brick or something. After clicking the link and watching the video, he could only sit at his computer and twitch and try to contain the explosion that was threatening to come out.

As soon as he heard the car pull up in front of the house, Kwan stalked out of his room and to the front door, glaring at it and waiting for Lancer to enter.

"The only problem is getting back out again," Lancer admitted. "I mean, once regaining human form it's very difficult to move among all the quicksand. Easier to just slither through as a Deep One or a mermaid."

One good thing the slightly congealed teriyaki sauce was good for: picking up giant gobs of fried rice.

Kwan munched on a bit of his chicken. "And there's a problem with the slithering out idea?" he asked before he reached over and snagged some of the veggies for himself.

"Very true," Lancer said. "Though it would be easier if..."

He gave Kwan a look. "Can you turn into a snake?" he asked.

Kwan blinked at Lancer. "Uh, well, I've never tried it," he said, a bit surprised by the question.

"Hmm," Lancer replied, chewing thoughtfully. He gave Kwan another look. Nah, didn't feel like a snake. Felt much more like a fox but that wasn't going to help. Though he had to admit foxes usually didin't feel... like this.

"Can you turn into a mermaid outside of the water?" he asked.

"I could try," Kwan answered, shrinking in his seat. He had never thought to try changing into a mermaid outside of water. "It shouldn't be too hard, right?"

"It... often is," Lancer admitted. "Especially since you change genders to do so."

And Lancer still had no clue how Kwan was able to manage that.

"Don't worry too much about it going in," he said. "You can stay human until you get stuck then use the water's power to change forms."

Kwan shrank a little more in his seat. "I didn't mean to change genders," he said, frowning slightly. His brain had immediately focused on the image of a mermaid rather than a merman. That was the only explanation he could come up with to rationalize the gender change.

"I'm not trying to blame you for anything," Lancer assured. "I'm still just surprised you were able to manage to change genders."

He left the 'without blowing yourself up' unspoken.

"Is it that strange?" Kwan asked in surprise as he sat up a little straighter. He snatched up some of the rice and stuffed the clump into his mouth.

"Just a tad," Lancer said.

He fished out a number of bamboo shoots from the vegetables and made himself seem busy with chewing. Maybe if he seemed busy Kwan wouldn't ask and Lancer wouldn't have to explain again why Kwan should be dead.

Kwan frowned at Lancer. The way he spoke and seemed to avoid the question made Kwan nervous. He could feel hairs rising on his arms as a prickle of - well, he wasn't sure what to name the feeling, but he didn't like the way it crept around his mind. He got the feeling it was best to let that topic be, or he would really not like the answer.

The subject really needed changing. But Lancer was unable to find a good subject to change it to. A silence threatened to invade and it wasn't a comfortable one.

Kwan poked around his food for a bit. "So, uh, what kind of stuff will you be teaching me at the lake?"

"I'm going to teach you how to sense lines of power," Lancer said, thankful for the subject change. "Then if we have time we can try scrying again. There should be enough of a moon later tonight."
