Can I claim the throne?! And even if I can't, that was a SHIT HOT chapter!!

Just the whole Xander threatening to follow Spike wherever - the altar bit made me giggle!! Spike's reasons for wanting to leave him behind were brilliant because they were true and not about thinking Xander was weak or anything like that. Just absolutely brilliant.

Of course, I'm still petrified Xander's going to lose his eye but maybe you could sacrifice Kennedy's eye instead?!!

And not heard shufti in ages!

You absolutely may have the throne, and I'm glad that you enjoyed their moment of emotional closeness. If Spike had been with lovers who really loved him, he would have known that Xander would never let him make the big sacrifice. And we'll all find out together about the eye. I'm reading that bit of transcript now.

Kennedy's not "the one who sees", so it wouldn't make sense for Caleb to take her eye. He'd just kill her (fine with me).

I know she's not the one who sees - i'd just rather she lose an eye than Xander!

Awww, that's just awesome. I can't wait to read the fight! And I love that Spike wanted Xander safe more than he wanted proper back-up.

*heee!* Also, the fact that Xander's planning back up plans and more back up plans is uber, because that's what proper soldiers do in times of crisis.

I giggled over the fact that Xander was all, "I'll follow you no matter where you go, so don't even think it!" and Spike was all, "Oh, bloody hell, FINE." *giggle fits*

I just wrote the fight. Spike is such a lover that I think he would sacrifice anything for people he loved. I think at one point he would have laid his life down for Angelus and Drusilla, and they threw him away. Xander won't

I just love it when stories have a mind of their own. That just make things more fun to read.

"Oh." Xander closed his mouth, not sure what to say about any of that. A little part of him thought Faith should pay for all the crimes she committed, and another part wanted to be there when Faith drove Angel insane with all her sex jokes. Well, unless Angel had sex with her. That would be entirely too gross. Xander really didn't want to think about Angel sleeping with someone Xander had slept with. Xander glanced over at Spike, and it suddenly occurred to him that he was sleeping with Angel's ex-lover. Spike caught his gaze and raised a single eyebrow. Now really wasn't the time for any sort of explanation, so Xander just gave a crooked grin and a shrug.

LOL! Oh Xander! You slay me!

"Can I just pretend that's not an option?" Xander asked with exaggerated hopefulness. Spike just stared at him. Xander sighed. "Bonnie is going over to stay with Clem while we're gone. The one thing I know for a fact is that Clem will get out of here alive, ( ... )

Because I've never seen these seasons, I really am having to roll with the punches as I read them. It does make writing the story exciting.

There's definitely a bit of the soldier left in Xander making strategies in case all is lost. The way you wrote him reminds me of Kipling's "Thousandth Man":

One man in a thousand, Solomon says,
Will stick more close than a brother.
And it's worth while seeking him half your days
If you find him before the other.
Nine nundred and ninety-nine depend
On what the world sees in you,
But the Thousandth man will stand your friend
With the whole round world agin you.

...But the Thousandth Man will stand by your side
To the gallows-foot -- and after!

This Xander was so lacking in canon especially in S7. Boo hiss to ME.

Yay you're on a roll. More please.

What a perfect poem for Xander. That's absolutely the way I see him! Well... except for season seven, but then I'm quickly replacing canon with my version so I never have to think about canon season seven ever again.
