photography and movies, my life

We have so much snow here that they are basically closing/canceling everything and it sort of rocks. I was supposed to sit tonight but I was hoping the parents would skip their dinner-thing because I was not too keen on going out in this shit. WELL, THEY DID. Win. So I just did "work" stuff all day -

I can't wait to see Black Swan. Apparently Natalie lost 20 pounds to look more like a ballerina. She was freaking tiny to begin with! I LOVE the posters!

SHE DID. She also trained for a year. Also, Mila Kunis trained for like 4 hours a day too, having had no previous dance experience. And they both looked so believably beautiful. It amazes me what actors do.

Crazy. I can't wait to see the dancing. How was the chemistry with her and Vincent Cassel? :D

You really should ask the helpful people at photography, but pricing depends on so many things, including how they're going to use it. So for me, I license my photos through a 3rd company. I like doing that because then I don't have to handle it (but also because I sell stock photography...which is different). You need to write up a contract on what the photos can be used for, the duration they can be used for, and how many copies can be made, and where the photos can appear (and other restrictions), and you price based on all that information.

Of course, that's not really that helpful :/

I saw Buried in the cinema a few weeks ago and I half-agree with you: I am glad I saw it and the ending was like a slap in the face (but in a way it matched the film) but at the same time I was glad I saw it in the cinema, for me it would not have felt the same at home. I also do not think that I will be able to or want to watch that film again, it is a lot about the feeling when you watch it for the first time and that will be gone then. Good acting though.

AND OMG BLACK SWAN. I still have to wait a while until it comes out in the UK but I am so looking forward to this and the posters you linked to, asjdlasjdl. The one with the white background where you can see her standing on pointe, WANT WANT WANT. I love alternative posters. :)

AND NOW I AM GOING TO GO READ. "What?!" I know, right.
ONE DAY, woman, I am going to find you a book that changes your mind about reading. THIS IS MY FUCKING LIFE QUEST.

Also, re: pricing -- my roommate is a photographer so if you don't figure the pricing out from anyone else, let me know and I'll ask her (she had to write a business plan for one of her classes). Annnd, one of my best friends opened a makeup studio (this is great inspiration for you, actually: she has NO training in makeup except natural talent & skill, started from nothing, and is now insanely requested all over Montreal!), and when she was deciding on pricing, she priced high end because she wanted high end customers. Psychology is everything -- if they see you charge more, they'll instinctively think you are more professional/worth more, regardless of whether you'd do it for free and STILL be fucking amazing! She got a lot of flack from people who didn't think she should charge that much without training, but ended up getting incredibly high end customers and now ( ... )

Lol, looks like the snow is good for something at least. ;)

I understand your insecurity about the right pricing, but I really don't think you should demand less just for lack of experience. You've taken photographs that look way better than any professional portraits I've seen.
