"for some, 100 times will never be enough."

I saw the Wizard of Oz on the big screen today. We got there at 6:15, in the parking lot I saw a little girl and I said, "Oh my god, is she wearing ruby slippers." She was. She was probably three or four years old, tiny as hell, her little blonde hair in pigtails, wearing a blue dress and ruby slippers. I melted. We went inside and picked up the ( Read more... )

I thought about not only what this film has meant to me, but about what it has undoubtedly meant to others, as well. I thought about how it's timeless and beautiful and a testament to being young at heart. How it's color and spirit, how it's the one thing I go back to again and again, when I'm really really low. You know I'm in a bad or sad place if you come home to find me watching the Wizard of Oz. But that's what it is, that's what I have and it made me cry to think that I, and the world, would have this for life. It's not going anywhere.

This is why I do not approve of the remake scheduled for release next year. HOW could anyone remake this movie? It's one of those gems that should never be touched and should be left to remain timeless ( ... )

Remake? WAT? Please tell me they're just making a totally new movie based on the book with no red shoes and "Over The Rainbow," RIGHT?

I have no clue. All I do know is it will be a CG-animated film and it will be directed by John Boorman, the guy who made The Exorcist II: The Heretic. Which, needless to say, was one of the worst films ever made.

Eh, it'll probably just be a totally new film. No one would be dumb enough to remake the MGM Oz musical. Well, as a movie. If you can track it down, and since it's never been released to DVD it could be difficult since the tape's expensive as fuck anymore, there was a stage concert in 1995 with Jewel as Dorothy, Jackson Browne as the Scarecrow, Roger Daltrey as the Tin Man, Nathan Lane as the Lion, Natalie Cole as Glinda, Debra Winger as the Wicked Witch, and Joel Grey as the Wizard. (Heh, he musta really liked that particular role...) It was taped and broadcast on TNT a few times, and it was REALLY good. They even put in the Jitterbug number! Like I said, if you can track it down, it's worth a look. But that's a staged charity concert, and not a movie...

I love this so much. The Wizard of Oz is one of my favorite movies, too- I watched it so many times as a kid, and even though I haven't seen it in years, I still love it so much. I'm so happy for you that you got to see it up on the big screen because I know how much it means to you and how important it is to you. Also, I love how people of all ages were at the theater- older people and young children. You know a film is influential and amazing if it can span so many generations and be loved by people of all ages. Gah, I don't even know what to say. Just...this entry was amazing and made me so happy, and I'm so happy for you, getting to see this and just knowing that, no matter what, The Wizard of Oz will always be a part of your life that will hold so much meaning. ♥

I REALLY wanted to go, but the nearest theater was in Nashville, and I'm pretty sure with all that's going on in my family right now, no one would be thinking about this. But in 2039, if they do something like this, my ass is gonna be there. (Although I'll be damn near 60 by then, yeesh.) I've ALWAYS wanted to see this film on a big screen and with an audience.

Was the documentary they showed the one that's on all the DVD's? The one hosted by the fabulous Angela Lansbury? I assume so from the subject line. And it's the most rightest statement I ever heard - 100 times isn't enough.

The Wizard Of Oz is one old film that always has such a broad audience. Most lovers of old films are either older people or younger gay men like me who want to rifle through Joan Crawford's closet. :P But Oz has mass appeal. I think for kids, they love how colorful it is, the Munchkins, the Oz characters, etc. I think for adults, it reminds them of when they were kids. And for people like me, I love to analyze the film and find things you didn't quite ( ... )

:( !!! I know, god I hope they do something for 100, so that you can see and feel that because it's amazing. It's all so amplified.

YYY!!!! It was that one!

I love to analyze the film and find things you didn't quite notice when you were ten
This, so much. I think that's why the heart line affected me so much tonight, because I've actually felt a broken heart but that want for it anyway. I didn't know that feeling when I was little.

I can go on way too long about this shit if you haven't noticed...
My god, please, by all means! ♥!

Hell, I bet they do something in 2014 for the 75th. 75's a milestone birthday/anniversary.

Ah yes, the fabulous A.Lans. Love her so. But if she ever comes to my town, I'm getting the fuck out, cause I don't wanna end up dead. -_-

If you pick up the new DVD/Blu-Ray, you MUST go to Amazon and pick up the 2-CD Deluxe Edition Soundtrack CD. It's great to have it downloaded and all, but there's really nothing quite like having that gorgeous box and the awesome book inside it. And I thought it was out of print, but apparently it's back!
