"for some, 100 times will never be enough."

I saw the Wizard of Oz on the big screen today. We got there at 6:15, in the parking lot I saw a little girl and I said, "Oh my god, is she wearing ruby slippers." She was. She was probably three or four years old, tiny as hell, her little blonde hair in pigtails, wearing a blue dress and ruby slippers. I melted. We went inside and picked up the ( Read more... )

I thought about not only what this film has meant to me, but about what it has undoubtedly meant to others, as well. I thought about how it's timeless and beautiful and a testament to being young at heart. How it's color and spirit, how it's the one thing I go back to again and again, when I'm really really low. You know I'm in a bad or sad place if you come home to find me watching the Wizard of Oz. But that's what it is, that's what I have and it made me cry to think that I, and the world, would have this for life. It's not going anywhere.

This is why I do not approve of the remake scheduled for release next year. HOW could anyone remake this movie? It's one of those gems that should never be touched and should be left to remain timeless.

Gah, I love this movie so much. I can't count how many times I've watched it. I've recently introduced it to Ticclet, too - she was glued to the TV the whole time the film was on, hee.

So glad you got to see this movie on the big screen. There's nothing like experiencing something in that way that means a lot to you. ♥

Remake? WAT? Please tell me they're just making a totally new movie based on the book with no red shoes and "Over The Rainbow," RIGHT?

I have no clue. All I do know is it will be a CG-animated film and it will be directed by John Boorman, the guy who made The Exorcist II: The Heretic. Which, needless to say, was one of the worst films ever made.

Eh, it'll probably just be a totally new film. No one would be dumb enough to remake the MGM Oz musical. Well, as a movie. If you can track it down, and since it's never been released to DVD it could be difficult since the tape's expensive as fuck anymore, there was a stage concert in 1995 with Jewel as Dorothy, Jackson Browne as the Scarecrow, Roger Daltrey as the Tin Man, Nathan Lane as the Lion, Natalie Cole as Glinda, Debra Winger as the Wicked Witch, and Joel Grey as the Wizard. (Heh, he musta really liked that particular role...) It was taped and broadcast on TNT a few times, and it was REALLY good. They even put in the Jitterbug number! Like I said, if you can track it down, it's worth a look. But that's a staged charity concert, and not a movie...

I was SO glad that on the 2005 DVD's, they used the right music for that scene. On the 1999 Warner Bros. DVD release, they actually used a demo by mistake or something. (I think the VHS had the soundtrack recording though, as did the 1989 VHS. Which I have somewhere, albeit not in very good shape.)

Did they show the deleted If I Only Had A Brain dance?!

I don't have the 2005 DVDs, I NEED THEM. I want that huge massive box thing.

NO, they did not. They showed part of it in the Angela Lansbury thing though.

Actually, I think next month is when the new DVD's and the Blu-Ray come out. You can either get the 2-Disc DVD or the big fuckoff 4-DVD (or 2-BR) collector's set in a bigass box with a watch, a book, and all kinds of stuff.

Although I want it, I'm not gonna get it. I already got the 3-Disc DVD in 2005, and although I'd love to have more of the pre-'39 Oz movies and the TV movie on Baum and the gorgeous physical extras, I'm not buying that shit again. There was major ~dramz~ with the 2005 DVD...mostly related to my old DVD player, but it took exchanging it twice to figure it out.
