I completely agree with the person asking the question. As long as everyone's happy, who cares how one has sex?

Lol, I realize that the discussion is about more than this, but I am 99% certain that Booth did not mean missionary position specifically. I might want to watch that scene again, but I am almost certain that Booth doesn't just do it in the missionary position, and that he just meant that sex with someone you love is better BECAUSE you love, them, no matter what the position. Positions don't matter, it was more about love vs. just sex or sex fetishes. It was one of the general Booth/Brennan cheesy end-of-episode moments meant to further their relationship & give something for Booth to "teach" Brennan, not a commentary on sex positions.

About missionary position: I think that society deems missionary position the more "normal" and "loving" position because the people involved are face-to-face, and that might make it more. . . personal, I guess. But hey, I have never had sex so I don't know for sure.

But why couldn't fetish sex not also be called "lovemaking"? Personally, I think societal expectations tell us to see certain things as odd, when frankly, sex is unique to everyone. So how can we not call what we find pleasurable in the act of making love a fetish? I'm sure everyone has different things they find in "lovemaking" more pleasurable.

I saw that episode too, I was pretty put off by the way Booth dismissively assumed that fetish sex was something to be ashamed off, and one should only commit to "lovemaking". I found that ridiculous as well.

I think missionary has become the so-called normal way to "make love" because you're facing each other. It is seen as more intimate than many other positions.

I think there certainly are odd and disturbing ways some enjoy sex but for the most part, there is no "normal" position to "make love" in. If you're in love with each other and you want to express it physically...the sky's the limit. LOL

Two people could be nailing each other's testicles to a board with a hammer and a screwdriver and as long as both people are consenting to it, that could be an act of love and lovemaking, too.

No one has the right to decide how two (or more) people express and indulge in their love for each other, regardless how strange or unusual it might seem to someone else.
