I HAVE NOTHING TO EVEN SAY BECAUSE I DON'T FUCKING GET IT EITHER.

It is a massive injustice and an argument I make every time I get shit for how excited I get for my shows. "SO IT IS OK FOR DAD TO JUMP OFF THE SOFA AND THROW HIS ARMS IN THE AIR AND YELL AT THE TOP OF HIS LUNGS WHEN A GUY KICKS A FUCKING BALL IN A NET AND I CAN'T GET EXCITED OVER THE DEVELOPMENT OF CHARACTERS I'VE GROWN ATTACHED TO? FUCK YOU"

I AM GOING TO GO GET A SHOWER. WILL YOU STILL BE HERE IN LIKE AN HOUR?

THAT IS SUCH AN EXCELLENT QUESTION.

And honestly, I have NO idea. Why is it freakish if you can remember all the episodes of, say, House by name, but perfectly normal if you can name the entire starting lineup of a football team?

DO NOT UNDERSTAND.

I understand where some people fit the distinction- sports are something where you go to see them, and it's often a group thing. I think it's the itnernet aspect of a fandom that throws people off, that we're often meeting people online to talk about a fictional world, when sports are at least something concrete and real.

That being said, when you get the sports fans who are just as obsessed with a player as we might be with an actress(which is the only time some people seem creepy to me, when they're barely short of stalking an actor), there's no difference. If I painted my body to look like a favorite character, there would be no difference. If I went to some huge public gathering, there would be no difference.

I personally agree that they're the same and one shouldn't be more socially acceptable than the other, but I can also objectively see why they are.

I guess I have nothing constructive to add to this because I HAVE NEVER EVEN THOUGHT OF THIS BEFORE. BUT WTFH THIS IS SO TRUE.

Someone I work with obsesses over NASCAR, brings it up at every department meeting and discusses it with our VP, but if I was to talk as animatedly about the latest ep of House or sth? I'd get maybe a blank stare at the very most. And I could NEVER mention the term "Huddy" or "Hameron" because nobody would know what it means.
