ROPE. WAS STYLISTICALLY *AWESOME*. There were probably 10 or less cuts in the whole entire movie. It just flowed - it was constant camera panning the whole time. I can't imagine the skill and discipline and attention to cues that those actors had to have had.

Ooh, Rope!  It's such an underrated Hitchcock film, but it's just as ingenius as any of his other films.  It's also definitely one of my favourites of his, for those reasons, and many more.  It's simple, but it easily showcases his mastery of tension and the quiet thriller.

ANOTHER THING. I loved that there was NO. INTENSE MUSIC. even during fights with weapons and everything else. He used simple things, like the lead actor playing the piano faster and faster as he encountered stress, the person who's GIVING him that stress starting the metronome when he repeatedly said he hates using them. It was just brilliant really.
Seriously!  Hitchcock was a genius.  There's really no other way to describe it.  One of the most memorable scenes for me is when the maid (I think? it's been a ( ... )

i didnt even know it was underrated. IT'S SO BRILLIANT!! i loved the simplicity - sometimes less is more.

YES YES YES! THAT SCENE!!! and it just keeps the camera on her... and it's such a long walk... and she does it a few times, each time clearing more and more off the table. and the people are all talking and shfddahds i was freaking out.

NO I HAVE NOT SEEN REAR WINDOW. i almost got that one tonight!! DAMN IT. the only ones i HAVE seen are these two (Vertigo and Rope), Strangers on a Train, and the obvious Psycho. Rear Window sounds AWESOME - what's the premise?

Yeah, less really is more in a lot of Hitchcock's films.

Oooh, Rear Window is really, really something.  It's also got Jimmy Stewart (yay!), and the premise is that he's a photographer for a magazine who's broken his leg, and is relegated to his apartment until he can get the cast off.  He gets bored weeks in, and starts spying on his neighbors, and comes to suspect that one of them has murdered his wife.  Basically, it's AWESOME. :)
