Fandom Interview! (The best kind!)

Apr 20, 2012 01:16

whenidream asked to interview me for a college project on artificial life and attachment to fiction and I happily obliged. Because yeah, let's not even pretend I don't have shit to say on the subject, lol. I'd love it if you read this and offered your own thoughts/experiences! And I'm probably biased but I feel like I've got some quality insight lol.

Q&A under the cut! )

There are days that I think I would not even exist without fandom and the things and people it has brought me.

Very interesting, and thoughtful! I was right there with you on most of it.

Fandom Car - yes, totally. That's such a great way to put it. I'm a one-fandom girl, too, in that I can only 'obsess' about one at a time. I can enjoy a handful of others, but I can't flail in-depth about more than one at the same time. It's like dating - I can't date multiple people at the same time, it has to be serial. I guess it's because when you really fan a show, you're entering into a relationship with these people ('these people' meaning the characters, and sometimes the creatives behind it too), and if you're the type who's inclined to give a relationship all of your best attention, you can't split that effectively without shortchanging someone.

In a film class once, our professor told a story about some regular guy who just walked right into an English palace.

Was it this story? If so - yep, they're filming it. Granted, for TV, but still.

Again it goes back to laziness or boredom in combination with a desire for ratings. If someone ( ... )

I'm with you on 99% of what you wrote and just reading all this brings back a lot of memories about the days when we still had fun together in the House fandom.

Lol at your answer to #19. I'd have died of embarrassment, but hey, it got you a production still... so worth it apparently! ;)
