So I'm in LA now. My day spent getting there was really fucking stressful - like, everything went wrong and was a huge pain in the ass (I wrote about it here). Then I had to get up at like 6:30 the next morning to be on set right away and I've been there basically since and NEED MOAR SLEEP. I'll get used to it and normally being on set isn't a ( Read more... )

Ooh where are you in LA? Any plans to go sightseeing or have some unique experiences?

When I get time, absolutely! I'm staying with Lindsey a few blocks from Venice but we've been shooting in Burbank (?) all this week. We leave her house at 8:30ish and don't get back until like 11 lol. So not a lot of time but we wrap tomorrow so I'll get to go to the beach finally! Jason's coming out next week and renting a car so I imagine we'll get to go see a lot of stuff then! Anything you recommend?

Whoa, driving from Venice to Burbank everyday...I salute you. Venice is lovely, and it has that kind of local arts culture. I take a stroll down Abbot Kinney once in a while and just hang out at Intelligensia. I love downtown myself, so if you get a chance, you should check out the architecture that is littered all over downtown Los Angeles. Nearby downtown are neighborhoods like Silverlake and Los Feliz that are very quaint and hipster. For more beaches on the westside, I recommend heading further up to Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, and Malibu ( ... )

lol yeah, some mornings are worse than others. :/ I love the culture in Venice. I haven't been to Silver Lake but one of our producers' offices is there or lives there or something so I'll probably see it at some point. I went to Santa Monica today, not the beach yet, just shopping, but I LOVED IT.

Thank you so much for the recs! I'll look into them!

livejournal makes me a bit nervous sometimes about writing stuff, I don't know, but anyway, sounds amazing. I love the stressy bit on a shoot though, everyone always is kind of full of this not nervous but edgy energy and it's great. Always great as well to have a good crew where everyone is comfortable.

Are you just staying out there for the shoot? or do you think you're gonna stay a bit longer and try and find something more permanent?

Gosh I feel as if I have missed something! So you are living in LA now? Or just there briefly for a job? What sort of place do you have :)

Very exciting!

Well, I came for a job on a webseries but I bought a one-way ticket so I'm not exactly sure... lol. :) I love it here, I want to stay! I'm staying with Lindsey for the time being, and our mutual friend Matt just left for a three-month film gig in Texas or some shit and he said we could stay at his place so that'll be sweet.

I hope you enjoy catching up on sleep today! And I'm glad you're enjoying doing stills every day and that the people you're working with are chill and care about similar things as you. That makes things so much better, especially when they can be stressful/crazy at the same time.

As for fandoms, if you get the chance, I'd recommend giving both The Good Wife and Luther a try- I feel like you might really like both of those shows! :)

I'm so excited to sleep finally. I really love stills and even when people are assholes/unorganized/whatever I still love doing stills because they're pretty self-contained, you know? For the most part I don't have to coordinate with other people and I love that.

I've never heard of Luther. I've obv heard of the Good Wife - I watched the pilot and didn't really like it but perhaps I'll give it another try when I have time!

Here's a scene from the pilot episode of Luther, to see if it's something you think you'd be interested in!

Lissie, give Luther a chance, I absolutely believe you'll love it, if not the story-line then the stunning cinematography (fjskjfs gives me so many feelings) -- it's a British show, that might be why you haven't heard of it? Youtube/google that if you've got a chance. It's one of my favourite shows OF ALL TIME, and it has 10 episodes. And i do not throw that phrase around too lightly.

Since I'm commenting here anyway, I'm so happy for you, making your way in LA and doing what you love. Keep it up, you are a valuable asset to any crew.
