So I'm in LA now. My day spent getting there was really fucking stressful - like, everything went wrong and was a huge pain in the ass (I wrote about it here). Then I had to get up at like 6:30 the next morning to be on set right away and I've been there basically since and NEED MOAR SLEEP. I'll get used to it and normally being on set isn't a ( Read more... )

Whoa, driving from Venice to Burbank everyday...I salute you. Venice is lovely, and it has that kind of local arts culture. I take a stroll down Abbot Kinney once in a while and just hang out at Intelligensia. I love downtown myself, so if you get a chance, you should check out the architecture that is littered all over downtown Los Angeles. Nearby downtown are neighborhoods like Silverlake and Los Feliz that are very quaint and hipster. For more beaches on the westside, I recommend heading further up to Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, and Malibu.

If you like art museums, we have a bunch of pretty-much-free ones that are worth seeing. The Brentwood Getty near UCLA is amazing. And its other location at Malibu is breathtaking. You need to make reservations for the Malibu Getty I think, though. The reservations are free, you just need to pay for parking.

It would be great if you could have a music or theater experience while you're here. It's opera season, so you can catch worldclass performances at the Dorthy Chandler Pavilion, and every week, there are some amazing performances at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown. I am going to try to go to Simon Bocannegra, the opera, this month or in March. I saw a preview and it looks amazing.

lol yeah, some mornings are worse than others. :/ I love the culture in Venice. I haven't been to Silver Lake but one of our producers' offices is there or lives there or something so I'll probably see it at some point. I went to Santa Monica today, not the beach yet, just shopping, but I LOVED IT.

Thank you so much for the recs! I'll look into them!
