WORLD ON FIRE - a Milagro video
WOW OKAY SO. I've had this song idea for at least two years. And I finally did it. lkjfhsdlfja So it's very important to me for that reason, and it's also very sentimental to me because Milagro is my all-time favorite ep.
I hadn't made an XF video in forever and it just felt so. damn. good. to be working with these guys again. Espesh now since I've had more practice. I miss them so much and it's been 5 years (for me, anyway) since I first 'met' them, and I'm still way in love. So yessss this is a small piece of my heart (LOL NO PUN) right here, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. Hope you likey! <3

Not much to say in terms of commentary, but I'll throw in some notes here:
- TIMING. This video focuses HEAVILY on timing. Little eye blinks and touches and I also used a LOT of cuts to emphasize timing, too.
- Cuts. I used a LOT of matching action in this one, because this episode is heavily laced with lots of gorgeous, artistic pans. Matching action is when you've got a shot of something, and then you cut to a closer up shot of that same thing. So there's lots of that in this video.
- Black and white. I use grayscale in this one to symbolize death. And because of a saturation trick, I was able to get certain things to stay colorful - for example, red blood on the photos, and yellow flowers in the back of the truck. But yes. the grayscale is death, which is why Scully turns b&w as he's attempting to rip her heart out towards the end.
- Story. Much like the episode, this video deals with the idea of love vs. infatuation, vs. lust.
- Parallels. There's a great section around 3:10 where I took two unrelated scenes and tied them together. Watch for the parallels. The girl is running, cut to a shot of Padgett grazing Scully's calves (which he has already noticed that they are well shaped and toned from running). The killer tackles his victim, cut to a shot of Padgett pushing Scully's hip into the bed. Killer pulls out girl's heart, cut to a shot of Padgett brushing over Scully's chest, leaving it unharmed.
And then I'll just list some of my favorite shots for you.
And this is going to make no sense to you probably, but there are just some shots in every video of mine that just bring a different color to my insides when I watch them back. I can't explain it, but it's good. A good color. So here are those lol:
0:10 - lighting the cigarette. actually, this whole beginning. with her eyes and lips. and then him doing that thing with his mouth.
0:40 - that fade
1:18 - these cuts around the air vent
1:28 - obviously. and i just really love how she moves with the lyrics. idk.
1:46 - her looking out the window
2:05 - probably my fave of the whole thing.
2:15 - idk why i love this smoke so much but it's really up high on the list.
2:23 - just because. the music. okay another thing i really like about this video, is the occasional antithetical juxtaposition. or whatever. like this clip right here, it's not pleasant or light at ALL what's happening, but the music IS pleasant and light.
2:41 - holding the milagro with that slight change and amplification of the music
3:48 - FAVORITE. it's so painful and scary and laced with this light music gives it a different kind of... creepy. or something.
4:13 - that fade. watch how bright her eye gets against that paper when it curls up.
