As most of you know, this past weekend was Once Upon a Time in Tombstone, a weekend-long, Western-themed LARP, written by Team Brit, held in Maryland. And I was there! With awesome costumes(How the awesome costumes were made is a topic for another post ( Read more... )

I completely understand the 'should I have been so understanding, or just gone ahead and arrested more folks' issue. My character definitely should have been a bit more understanding, but still I worry I was just avoiding conflict.

Would have loved the little showdown that would have erupted if you'd tried to take in Ms. Basset however... Which probably would have resulted with my character under arrest as well. ;-P

I am glad that my 'start as the saloon girl' recommendation did at least some good... (not enough perhaps, but some).

I think the big thing I realized this game is that while I can do well with secrets to a degree, I don't do that well with a character that is too secrets driven. I just felt really constrained by the various secrets in this game...

Glad to hear you had some good times, sorry to hear you had some not so good times! (Yes, I read the whole thing - I realized I was still on the mailing list afterwards, and quite frankly, with this sort of game I can always either forget everything by the time it runs again, or just not metagame!) With regards to this ( ... )

Haha, I assumed NO ONE would read my stupidly long post. I guess I was wrong.

I really hope to play Game of Empire some day! If other weekend long games that ran at RPI are re-running--like Secrets--than I guess there's hope it will run again...

I missed a lot of good weekend-long LARPs in my early LARP career, because I had some early experiences with them that were bad/boring (Nexus, Masks) which made me very hesitant to play. So I missed out on Secrets, Game of Empire, Torch of Freedom, and a few others. It wasn't untilzrealm ran Dragon--which as a Brust fan I HAD to play--that I got back into it...

Nexus was my First Ever weekend-long, and it sounds like there was a bunch of variance between the different runs that took place back then. Suffice to say that I had fun, though it's a shame you didn't on your end. What happened, if I can ask?

Also Masks is kind of a love-it-or-hate-it LARP, truth be told! Who did you play in that? I ran the one at Brandeis, but maybe it's my patchy memory that's not reminding me of your presence there.

Both of these games were just boring for me - not enough to do. Given, this was before I learned that the only right answer to the oft-asked-on-Foambrain-questionnaires "How much do you expect to play?" is "THERE IS NOTHING BUT GAME." At least, it's the right answer for me, because I'm heavily narrativist.

The run of Nexus I played in was the one that happened in 2006(?) at Brandeis. It would be my second weekend-long LARP, after TMA. This was the run where Foam Brain had planned to run Game of Empire, but hadn't managed to scrounge up enough players, and so decided to run something with a smaller player count--hence, Nexus. natbudin convinced Matt and me to play, although I really didn't want to make a whole weekend-long commitment (I was taking classes at the time and had homework to do), so I asked for a not-very-involved character. However, I neglected to realize that since Matt and I drove together, if he became heavily involved in the game--which he did--I couldn't leave ( ... )

Ech. I'd played three sessions of my current vampire game before using my abilities even once. It was so heavy on the roleplay, you just didn't need to.

It never once occurred to me that you weren't 2 different characters! Then again, I was a straitlaced heterosexual older female...

Haha, really? That's tremendously ego-gratifying to know.

... Jessica Drummond? I'm afraid I can't tell who you are or who you played by your LJ name.

Yeah, I forgot to identify myself, didn't I? Yes - Jessica Drummond.

I just assumed you had been playing 2 different characters.

It was fun roleplaying with you and I appreciate your character's help in arresting Jessica Drummond. I felt bad that we didn't take you along on the posse to hunt Frank James, but I knew that *everyone* wanted to hunt Frank James and I didn't want to turn it into a circus, so only the people involved in the original thing 10 years ago went.

Yes, I enjoyed our interactions! Glad to know my marshalin' was satisfying to somebody. (Wow, that sounded naughty). Did she ever get brought to trial?

Nope - game ended before anyone bothered. Turns out I would never have gotten sentenced to anything serious - Hezekiah Beckham decided to use a Government pardon on my behalf in that eventuality.

Well, Beckham knew where the bodies were buried. Would have been fine too, if not for all of you White Hats. :)
