the monk and the fish

This animation film is a work of art. It starts funny and graceful, with the monk trying to catch the smart fish, then it turns into a metaphoric ballet where the drowning is just the gateway to flight and harmony. Beautiful, beautiful work by Michael Dudok.

My favorite Dudok film remains Father and Daughter, which touched me deeply, especially ( Read more... )

Wow, didn't know about this guy. What a wonderful metaphor is this short film. I love the drawings so much, I love their apparent simplicity, there's no line that doesn't fit to the economy of the whole drawing, there's no extra spot of color that has no particular role there. And the pre-classical music... wonderful. Wonderful how he shaped the whole action, each and every move according to each and every tone of the music. This guy is a genius. TY for sharing it.

I also love the simple lines and the perfectly times animation. The pastel colors, not fighting to get too much attention are discreet but perfectly toned. The music is also superb and works so well with the story. I am so glad you liked it too!

That was beautifully done! I never saw his work before. I want to watch Father and Daughter but I'm afraid I will cry...

The guy is brilliant. The other film is even better, even if it may make you cry. It has a sort of happy ending... and those draw the most tears.
