cave hermitages and ancient aliens-like legends

The next stop after the mud volcanoes was the area Nucu-Bozioru where there are vestiges of an interesting monastic ensemble dug into the caves of the Buzau Mountains. It was hard work getting there, the climb was uncomfortable for a city dweller, office worker like me. What annoyed me the most was seeing the placid cows in the pastures above me. ( Read more... )

Looks pretty amazing!

I'm with you though, there is no way I would have climbed that ladder. *shudders at the thought*

There were two consecutive ladders like that. I guess if I had more time to gather courage... I don't know. It looked scary.

Yep, you wouldn't catch me up a ladder that looked like that either!!

The whole place looks stunning, they're the sorts of places I love to go to explore and just enjoy being surrounded by green and stone and things. It does look quite serene.

Also yum, cheese. :D

What really stopped me from climbing the ladders was knowing that while I could have climbed up with some effort, climbing down would have been much much worse.

It's a really beautiful place, the mountains always make a huge impression on me too. It's also a bit wild which should be a quality if not for the unpleasantness of bad roads and lack of explanatory signs.

Beautiful! I remember being impressed by Romanian landscapes when the Rosenrot video came out.
It seems, there is a lot more to explore in your country.

Beautiful landscapes and all the remote villages that seem out of time make an interesting place to visit, if one doesn't mind the bad roads.

You would feel right at home there! I surely recommend Buzau because there are many interesting things there in a small area. You will also have to check out the trovanti : http://www.turismbuzau.ro/trovantii.html that I have missed.
