Abandoned buildings always have a certain mystique that attracts me. Here you have one of the superb photos done by Yves Marchand and Romain Meffre, featured in their book, The Ruins of Detroit.

I'm not a big fan on HDRI photography, but here it fits well. The images are awesome. And, of course, the one with the piano is my favorite too.

There's also the one with the melted clock...

PS: I didn't know what HDRI photography means so I went and checked - I still didn't understand :(

Oh, yeah, loved that one, especially as Dali fan. There's the one with a red old house that looks like decomposing, liked that one too.

HDRI - High Dynamic Range Image - it's a technique appeared not long ago; they make the images so that you can see all the details very well defined, the colors very vibrant, there's a very high contrast also, and the images look rather like drawings than as photographs, in the usual sense. In some cases it fits, like this with the ruins and decaying buildings, I think it works good in this situation. There are many who exagerrate using it though, at least in my opinion, and some use it as a cover for poor subject choice or composition.

Thank you for the explanation! I understand now! I even found a tutorial for photoshop - I might give it a try to see how it works.

The whole series is fascinating. It's sad to see the greatness of other times fallen into ruins. But even so, it has a special beauty.

This is a very beautiful pic, and I love the technique used to enhance it!

I also love abandoned buildings and this post reminded me of one that's near to me called the Divine Lorraine Hotel. It was originally an apartment building. I found it by accident one day years ago when I was driving through the city with my sister. It caught my eye and I was in awe. I didn't take these inside pics, but they go with the Klavier theme. They were taken inside the chapel:

wow, cool photos!!! The white piano is amazing!!! The inscription on the wall goes well with Klavier too!!! Great find!!!

I am also too shy to be a real photographer - I don't dare take pics of people and I don't feel comfortable entering places I have not been allowed into.
