time for another post about the Romanian healthcare system

Mar 08, 2010 19:45

Today has been a pretty horrible day. Not only my mother's trip to Bucharest to (finally) get her surgery that would enable her to have her dialysis without worries was totally unsuccessful, the doctor saying he was too busy to take care of her today and postponed it till Wednesday, but, worse, she developed a blood clot on her foot (trombosis) and ( Read more... )

Good heaven, I'm so sorry to hear that you mum is in hospital again, I wish I could say something to make you feel better but I don't know if anything said can help..
Gosh, your health care system is so much like here, it's scary! If you pay, it will cost you so much money they you gonna be in debt for the rest of your life and if you don't pay they will treat you like you are already dead. It's so horrible that over there you also have to bribe the nurses and docs are so incompetent that no money can be of any good.
Hun, I'm so sorry! *hugs you tight*

I noticed the similarities between our countries too. The healthcare systems are scary for both of us. It just leaves you feeling helpless. Hopeless. Not to mention broke.

Oh Mira, I am so sorry that you and your mum are having to face this horrible healthcare system. Every time you post about it I realise how lucky we are in the UK. Our healthcare system is far from perfect, but we can usually rely on it to provide treatment when we need it. Two people sharing a hospital bed is just so degrading.

Your mother is so lucky that she has you. YOu are such a fabulous daughter.

There were even 3 people in the same hospital bed! While on the same floor, the rooms allocated to a different section were pretty much free. My mother was supposed to be in the same bed with a paralyzed woman at some point. With interventions (to be read: bribes) they moved her in a bed of her own in a dialysis room, near the machines. She slept there a couple of nights, then back to two people in the same bed! At another point she had to stay in a hospital room for men - there were no more places left in the one for women. I think it wasn't that bad at the time...

I'm missing to see the logic of the fact that if she sold shares, she has to pay now to the Health Insurance House, but then, again, it's Romania we are talking about! When I see people here complaining about the German healthcare system, and some are right in their complaints, I still cannot help a smirk and the thought "You should know it can be really worse than this".

I really wish I could say something to make you feel better, at least, but again, the situation is to shitty, dunno what can be said. But I keep my fingers crossed for you and your mom.

If you have some profit from any activity registered by the finance people, no matter how small the amount, you have to pay the health care fund minimum 300 lei. The rest were penalties and stuff like that. It's so absurd, but totally normal in this country, as you know. And in the end, I would surely prefer that this almost anecdotal situation was the only problem...

Yes, because the really reach people in Romania make millions in activities not registered by the finance people, they don't pay their debts to the Finance and also don't have to pay any fines and to the health care fund. Only the retired people with pensions that don't cover even their daily expenses have to pay... But this is indeed preferable compared to the asshole who told you to come to Bucharest and then refused to make the surgery.

The asshole told my mother on Friday that she should be in Bucharest on Monday and she should call around 8 AM. he was actually upset my mom turned out at the hospital this morning, then he reconsidered, and said that she should come back on Wednesday because he was operating a tumor today and was busy. Since the beginning of February he keeps postponing this. The logical thing would be to talk to another doctor, but this one has reserved a prothesis for my mother. So... this is it.

I'm sorry you and your mom are going through this again. I can't understand how doctors can be so thoughtless! Why do they do that job if they don't truly want to help people?

I really hope your mom will have her surgery soon and it will be a success. *big hugs*

Doctors here only care about money. People die if they don't pay. It's that simple.
