The bartender is a happy, cheerful fellow who doesn't question the age of his drinkers and doesn't know why he's being asked to mix mysteriously red liquid with his collection of alcohol.

He also has food. Both dead and alive. Just ask if you want a little more jump to your meal. 8)

Once the bachelorette and bachelor parties, mysteriously, mixed, Rukia found herself a little bit ill at ease. She wasn't sure where Matt was and she didn't really know most of the people here.

She was wandering around, trying to find somewhere out of the way to sit and observe the crowd when she spotted a very familiar blond head.

But it ... couldn't have been.

Well she could make sure. At least.

Rukia casually wandered up to the bar and sat down a few seats away from the person she was sure wasn't Mello.

Mello was leaning over the bar to steal a little umbrella when he spotted Rukia sitting a few seats down.

He contemplated the likelihood of surviving if she realized he was there, over the likeliehood of him surviving if she only heard about it later.

Two seconds later he was calling her over "Rukia!"

Rukia turned to look at him outright, an outraged look on her face.

"Mello."

She was going to kill him. Once she figured out where he had been.

Mello pushed himself out from the stool and talked himself out of holding his hands up surrender. He gave her a cocky grin instead and decided, to hell with it, he was dead anyway.

He walked over and wrapped his arms around her. Sentimental but it might buy him time.

Rukia saw Mello's tactics for exactly what they were-- a distraction from her killing him.

She leaned back from his hug and glared up at him, positioning her fist under his chin.

"Where the hell did you disappear to?"

Mello rolled his eyes and clasped his fingers around her wrist.

"You noticed, I'm touched." He tried to think of the best excuse that would result in not death but came up blank. The truth worked.

"Egypt. I was following a lead on something and it took more time than I intended. Got caught up in some shit. Sorry I didn't..call or anything." He rubbed the back of his neck.

Her fist didn't move.

"I was. Sort of preoccupied."

He shrugged "I don't have an excuse for you. Sorry." He didn't look her in the eye, half for fear of losing one and half because he was telling the truth.

Rukia crossed her arms over her chest and looked mad.

"You could have died and I wouldn't have known. Jerk."

Mello tensed but quickly forced himself to relax. "I promise, someone would have told you if I had. I'm back though, and fine. What about you?"

He suddenly realized just how much he'd missed her, fear of death and all. "Have you been okay? How is everything?"

"Yeah, that would have been lovely. By the way, Rukia, Mello died. Just thought you should know," Rukia grumbled, scowling at her friend.

Contrary to popular belief, and the look of loathing on her face, Rukia had missed Mello too. That idiot.

Mello failed to hide a smile. "You're cute when you're grumpy"

"Nothing at all? No chaos, drama, polka dotted ponies raining from the sky?" He shook his head "I'm almost disappointed."
