I dont want to tell anyone how to run their own swaps, but the guidelines and format that I have used in the ones I have done have gone well.
Also, making sure that the senders send the organizer a tracking # is imperative. If they cant do that, then I dont think they should be allowed to participate.
Sorry I keep editing, but also, making sure that each participant has perfect selling feedback protects everyone.
I definitely don't want to tell anyone how to run things, but at least for myself I would like to know how the majority of users wish things were run.
As to tracking, I'm fairly sure that organizers have let it slide a few times - which I don't think ever ends well. I was more wondering if people were ok with just tracking, or if they wanted things insured as well.
I felt a little burned, I must admit, in one of the swaps when I sent out a Vagabond goths top and got a pair of HT plain black pants in return. Seriously, they were plain black pants. I had to check the label to make sure they were even lippy.
I've never been in a swap because of that idea. It's like a bad Secret Santa. :( And also I feel shitty sending something I don't want, and becuase I don't want it... it was prolly something I had for sale for a long time and no one bought :( I like to honestly communicate with the girls, and organize a trade that we both know what we are getting. I'm a scrouge like that, I don't care for surprises, I like to know what is going on, and then look forward to it! :D
I think for people in the US, maybe it's best if they do Priority with tracking. Maybe for people sending stuff overseas it would be too much with tracking, so they could just send it and give you a scan of the receipt.
I've been a part of swaps, aside from lippy_addicts, and lippy_addicts swaps have always differed in that your swap partner is kept anonymous. After doing a couple of swaps on lippy_addicts my gripes were the usual among everyone else. I would send something of greater value and worth than what I would receive, and I was generally unhappy with what I received, which is why I haven't partaken in the previous several swaps. Obviously you need an organizer for a swap, who takes generalized information from everyone so that they can pair people up with whoever is the most compatible as far as what they have to offer, as well as price range of item willing to be traded, size, etc
( ... )
I'm most comfortable with swaps that comes with tracking. And theoretically I'm more than happy to swap internationally, but tracking on international packages are limited to only express mail (I just went to the post office and asked :\). That comes to roughly $40+ as opposed to less than $10 by First Class. I don't think anyone should require to spend that amount just to swap internationally. Personally I'd be happy with receipt scan or custom slip copies. But I think having tracking within same country is more than reasonable.
I'm also in favor of matching with similar valued items. Although one person's grail might be another's trash, so it's not failproof. Ideally, I'd like to match by preferred style + value range, but that means there's a lot of burden on the part of the swap organizer's judgment. So kudos to you willing organizers. :)

But I know what you mean. I once got a dress that had rust stains from the grommets going through the laundry and it smelled like feet.
