Oh, my dear. This is a stunning version of the tale. I just love the way you've mixed the fairy tale with canon.

Thank you so much! I couldn't decide if this should be long, detailed and serious, or short, broad, and a little quirky. It worked out the latter, I suppose because of Luna's influence! I might post it to hp_fairytales later.

oh my i've seen la belle et la bête! you really should watch it all the way through once you see it on tv again! better yet just find it and rent it ;) truly one of the best foreign films i've seen so far. the fact that it's in black and white made it better i think :)

i just read in one full sweep and must say that i absolutely fantastically LOVE IT! hehe despite how short the epilogue was ;) this version was just love and as i was reading it i couldn't help but giggle at some part. that was definitely luna alright!

“Please… I know I am hideous…” he began in his deep low voice. “Do not fear me…”

“Do you have a tail?” she inquired curiously.

i think that's one of my favorite parts. oh and i'm afraid i'm attached to howard too. hehe this was a good bedtime story for me so wonderful hugs and e-sugar cookies to you! and happy holidays :D

Thank you so much for your kind comment! *hugs* I hope you are having a wonderful holiday!
And OH I got to see the movie the other night on Ovation! The effects in that were so wonderful, and it had such an eerie atmosphere. Oddly, I think my favorite detail was those swans in the pond at the end, the way they weren't being all decorative and docile, but hissing and guarding their territory.

Ahh, this is lovely. House elves under an invisibility enchantment -- brilliant! And what an imaginative explanation for the founding of Hogwarts. I loved it. :-)

Thanks! To tell you the truth it was originally going to be Kingsley, but then I started making parallels between the grounds of the castle and Hogwarts and so had to back it up a couple hundred years, heh. Sirius would have been good for this, too, I think. You know, odd as it sounds, I wonder how a slash fairy tale would be. You know, Sirius as the beauty and Remus as the beast?

Kingsley, eh? That would've been cool too -- I think the world needs more Kingsley fic. *nods*

You should totally write that!! It's not a fairy tale, but that scenario sort of reminds me of this fic by penknife, which is an AU featuring Remus as Jane Eyre and Sirius as Mr. Rochester. It sounds cracky, but for me it really works.

Thank you for that link! It was awesome and atmospheric, I was up very early this morning reading it.
Sirius is definitely better as the blustery royal half. :D

Such exemplary use of fairy tale and canon! For all we know of the Ravenclaws, this could be true! Your Luna was stunning, your beast gentlemanly and perfect. It's brilliant... and going in my Memories. Thanks for writing this!

Thank you so much! Beauty & The Beast has always been my favorite fairy tale so I'm happy to hear you liked the Luna-ized version!

You know, it was always one of mine too (along with The Princess and the Pea). They say there is a psychological reason behind our favourite fairy tales. This fits well with Luna, actually, because she's so wise yet innocent, and her companionship with the Beast mirrors an ugliness that she lacks. They are complimentary angles. It's appealing to see how you captured this essence of the original fairy tale using Luna.

And I forgot to tell you this in my other comment: There's a band called Venus Hum that has a song named Bella Luna. It played and played in my head while I read your story.

Bella Luna, Bella baby girl,
Sweetest world, put the pearl down
I cannot think of letting go...

Oh, that's enchanting, I didn't know! I will have to try to find it on CD someday and hear it.
It would be very interesting to know the psychological reasons why people love the fairy tales they do! I always liked that Belle went bravely and willingly to do what she had to do, and that she came to love the real person under the strange exterior. I also liked the remote, inaccesible castle and the whole nature theme to the story.

What a lovely story! dancingkatz August 21 2011, 15:47:42 UTC
I just found hp_fairytales and had to read your story. I loved it! You know, this has triggered the erruption of a plot bunny. Beauty and the Beast with Hermione as Beauty and either Fred or George as the Beast... I know it sounds totally off the wall, but I'll let it simmer for a bit and write it when I'm sick to death of doing accounting homework this coming term. You wrote a winderful Luna!

Thank you so much! ^^ I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I look forward to reading your Hermione/Weasley version one of these days, too. :)
