Some places now have applications computerized ( I know if you go into Blockbuster or Safeway they direct you to their website ). This way you don't have to fill out your name, address, social security, relative contact... on an employment history form, medical form, contact form, tax form, etc. etc.
Because it does seem like a lot of those darn applications have you filling out senseless pages and pages of information. And they don't really need most of it. I suppose they need to know where to mail the check and who to call if there is an emergency. Okay, maybe references, but some jobs I've had I know that they never called my references because I asked them. And I still got the job. So why did I have to do all that paperwork?
Well, as far as this website goes, in particular, you fill in all the standard stuff and then they want your transcripts and letters of references and cover letters and philosophies of education and you're resume, etc., but often they'll have you fill in a full application form in addition to the standard computerized stuff so... for example, when I applied to Borders online it took no time at all. No repeat forms or having to fill in the same information and then scanning it and converting it to pdf format, etc.
Applying for teaching jobs seems to have a bunch of extra hoops.
