I don't know if LJ's being funny, or what, but I can't see whatever the image is at the end. Hmmm.
I think it's very significant that Damon has now returned Elena's necklace to her twice. So many lovely parallels in that scene--except that the tension was turned way up because, well, now Elena knows she likes him just the way he is.
I too really love the depth and breadth of their friendship and how it threads through every scene they had together. Even in the scene with Ric when Damon told him he hadn't told her the truth, it was just so she wouldn't get her hopes up. Damon's motive is always love; granted he sometimes gets that mixed up with "force" and "lack of choice" and a few other things, but he's learning.
I honestly feel like every week is just going to make me love them more, even though I always think I can't possibly actually love more than I already do!
It was LJ combined with my laptop that was being funny ;) I believe now (after several edits) that the image is showing.
ITA that returning the necklace twice is rather significant for them. I adored that Elena's treatment of Damon had changed since she's now aware of how he feels about her <3 ... hopefully that is a sign of things to come.
Damon's motivation is always consistent, but it is great that he's getting better at considering what actions are appropriate.
I can't wait to see where the show takes these two. I'm really hoping that we'll watch as Damon & Elena's friendship grows and broadens and blossoms ...
PS Let me know if you can see the picture now. Thanks, bb
I can see it now! Gah. He's so lovely in that scene. His face is screaming, LOVE HER, LOVE HER, LOVE HER and yet he just calmly fastens her necklace and leads her downstairs. *flails*
Her attraction to him in that scene was off the charts, too. I love that now that she knows, she can't unknow it and it's gonna rev her up! I can't wait to see it all unfold!
Ian's performance was stellar. Especially the lines, "Stefan is gone and he's not coming back. Not in your lifetime." He put just the right amount of emphasis on the first line and then softened just a touch on the second. It was wonderful. During his whole speech, I could feel that Damon was processing his emotions for most of it, but then shifted to being aware of Elena's at the end. That, to me, is the mark of an excellent actor.
I agree with you. I loved the depth and the intensity Ian gave to Damon's character. I just love how his voice broke and softened.
I also think that what i love the most about Damon and Elena is that they are friends and that they totally rely on each other. Damon is someone Elena trusts and this is important in his journey to understand that he is worth, that he can be the Damon he used to be.
I can't help, everything is in connection with Damon in this show. At least it's how I see it :)

Great observation, Val!!! I totally agree that Elena's trust is a key part of Damon realizing that he does have worth. I so very much want that for him. It makes me so sad that he's so broken in that respect *sigh*
