woo woo! neat idea, thanks :) i think i'll wind up in santa barbara at this point- the original plan was santa monica, but finding housing in SB will be way easier and cheaper, from what i can tell. then again, i still don't know where i'm going, so anything is possible. i'm googling for sacramento colleges and double checking craigs list as i type this- if i wind up interested in such an offer, which is looking more and more tempting by the moment, i'll definitely let you know.
Keep in mind, it's CA, and depending on the city, $1200/mo might actually be an allright deal. Higher cost of living and all. What area are you planning on moving to? Are you going silicon valley on me?
well, yeah, i was hoping for santa monica, or at least north LA- pretty damn close to "the promised land", but like you said, 1200 for a 1br (or even scarier, 900+ for a shared room) sounds like it's about the norm. so i changed my mind to santa barbara, but i'm looking at san louis obispo and sacramento right now, and the rooms are almost cheaper than they are here at state. plus, the more i think about it, the further south i go, the more in competition i'll be for jobs/classes/scholarships/etc with the whore-load of people that go to so-cal for college. so the san-fran/more-north area is looking way attractive.

My uncle's a huge real estate guy in Sacramento...
Other relatives might be willing to rent in San Jose...
