Sounds like you just got dumped again but in a way that lets him keep you on the backburner in case he changes his mind later. That is pickup artist level strategy on his part. Please don't fall for it. It doesn't have to be so murky and with your state of mind it shouldn't be at all for your sake: either you can be together and you are, or you can't and you're not. Push him off the fence and get on with life.
