I though this film ight interest people here. I'd wanted to see it since I'd heard of its existence, but not got round to it until today, but it was definitely worth the wait. Gruff Rhys from the Super Furry Animals saw a singer on Welsh tv in the 70s who used to go

Back in college, I knew a grad student who spoke fairly fluent Welsh and had done some fieldwork among Welsh-speakers in Patagonia. He played me a bit of a tape he had of two old Welsh-Argentinian ladies speaking Welsh and that remains the only sample of the dialect I've ever heard. This looks like literally the best possible way imaginable to remedy that.

They do sound pretty much exactly how you would imagine an Argentinian speaking Welsh would sound. The rs and stress rhythm sound more Spanish.

There are also people in the film switching from Spanish to Welsh mid-sentence. They seem to understand Gruff Rhys perfectly.

This is so awesome. I have been curious about what the Welsh community in Argie is like, having connections to the country myself, I always found it so fascinating that there was a Welsh-speaking community at all. :) Thanks for the post!
