Amélie Nothomb! I had to read one of hers (stupeur et tremblements) for my french class when I was 17 and I LOVED it. :D My sister is that age now and voluntarily reads books by her to keep her French decent. They are rather funny and stuff.

Seconded. I love her. Cosmetique de l'Enemie and Hygiene de l'Assassin are my favorites. Easy to read, short, entertaining, thought-provoking...I love the classics, but when I'm looking for something easier to read but still good, that's what I reach for.

If you haven't already, try Amazon France. It has a Sci-fi/Fantasy/Horror category. Look for French-sounding author names if it's important that it be a native language work and not a translation (also note: translations usually list the translator, as in the case of the book linked here). A few books also have a Serach Inside function.

There's also a section for great authors, if you're looking for something considered classic (like, for instance, René Barjavel).

I have looked at Amazon.fr, it's not that I can't find books, more that there are too many XD
With English novels, I can find new stuff through the "this is kind of like this other thing I liked" route. I don't know what I like in French, so I look at Amazon and am just a little overwhelmed.

Thanks anyway, though

Persepolis is a terrific graphic novel- I've only read the English translation, but the French is supposed to be wonderful.

That's awesome. I'm such a huge Schmitt fangirl, it's not even funny. :D

(Also, I rant about House dubs all the time. And about House in general. You're not alone xD)

Ha! Another person does that? Heh, how statistically improbable that two losers of such proportions would ever collide :D

This guy: Bernard Weber. You might want to start with Les Thanatonautes + L'Empire des Anges, as they're smaller and the language is less complicated; only the themes he explores in these (mostly reincarnation) could put you off if you're not into that kind of thinking. Then move on to the Fourmis trilogy - huge, rather complicated books, but fascinating.
