The Classics

Aug 11, 2012 20:16

I'm bored (I'm procrastintating) and I don't have any inspiration for fics that I know where I want them to go, but just don't know the journey, same old, same old, so I'm here asking for one thing.

The best Lily/James fanfiction. The classics. The ones that if I haven't read them, I'm not a true L/J fan. The ones that everyone knows about it. The ( Read more... )

fic rec, fanfic, looking for...

A lot of L/J is no longer on FF.net, unfortunately. In fact, most of my "classics" recommendations can be found on Unknowable Room. If you don't create any other account for reading L/J besides this one, you would still be set. Or you could always create a delicious account, where you can save and categorize links from any website and attach tags as well as a summary. I use delicious to save links to all my favorite stories from any archive around--it's kind of like creating a personal, multi-website favorites list.

If you are interested in checking out anything on unknowable room, I'd read anything by sarinileni, specifically Lust...or Love? and Silences Between Leaves. Lust or Love is like my gold standard for L/J fics. This author's work used to be on FF.net ages ago, but the website deleted a lot of stories (much like the cleaning house they went through recently) and a lot of people were upset by that and decided to create a new, better L/J archive. All of that happened ages ago, but the point is that sarinileni's story ( ... )

I'll check them out. I just wanted to see what was out there on fanfiction. If you have anything else, I'd love to know about it though. Thanks! (And I did not know that about the memories, so thanks a bunch for that too.)

Do you happen to know what happened to her? (Sarinileni) She has a lot of great stuff, but a lot of it is unfinished, and was posted a few years back. I've scoured the internet to see if I could find anywhere else she may have posted them, but to no avail. I really enjoyed the Lust or Love piece, and was really intrigued by the sister piece from James' pov, but she only actually posted one part, whereas she had lined out five ( ... )

You know, I'm not sure what she's up to. I remember her taking breaks from writing in the past so maybe that's why few people have heard from her. I know that sometimes people take breaks from fanfiction only to come back 6 months to a year later. If you're looking for her online they try her page at Unknowable Room.

One of the best ways to "get involved" with fanfiction and chat with people about the pairings is through communities like this. If you're interested in talking to people about the pairings then make a discussion post on the community, I'm sure lots of people would comment!

As you have an LJ account, are you interested in LJ recs as well?

I'm not really sure what you mean by "classics" but very popular ones are The Life and Times and Commentarius, both of which are on FF.net. I recommend both but if you do read both, make sure that you treat them separately and don't compare. A lot of people start comparing them and then hate one or the other. Kiss and Tell is one of my ultimate favourites since it's so different from the average James/Lily fic.

I'm sure there's a ton more but those are the first three that came to mind. I hope this helped!

It did. And I started The Life and Times, but never got a chance to finish it, for some reason.

Well, I'm currently collecting all of my favorites in my LJ. It's mostly FFnet recs, though there are some LJ or Unknowable Room recs on the list. You might drop by and give it a try, some others also dropped in and gave their recs too. I think others put up their own recommendation in the community too, you can give that one a try.

LJ Recs

Have fun~

Molly Raesly's Boyfriend is really good. I haven't read the other stories in the series (I think it has three parts), but that one's the first and I enjoyed it.
