The Bride Stripped Bare Pt. II

I was so proud of myself. I was going to be a reasonable bride. I was going to be that down-to-earth creature that smiled patiently while other people described their out-of-the-way locations, or the cost of booking a church, or complained about their fiancee's numerous relatives. J and I sensibly divided the event into three parts ( Read more... )

Out of curiosity, what size do you need? I have a friend who has the dress, she may let you borrow it if that might be an option

I need an 8 and I will stick a great big belt on it to take it in at the waist. For reasons that have never been clear to me, Betsey Johnson designs run very, very small in the bust.

In my perfect fantasy world, dress #2 mates with dress #3, and I get to wear its babies.

Yes--exactly. Those are the two I really like.

I really hope you find something you love.

I got married with nothing to wear a week before.

The week before, my mother phoned. "I have this beautiful 1910-ish Edwardian tea gown that I happened to find in a costume trunk at the community theatre and they said I could have it. I cleaned it up. Would you like it? I could make a sash, and send some decorations for your hat."

I gratefully accepted.

UPS botched the shipment. You know how to make UPS dance? Tell increasingly important people, over and over, that they have your WEDDING GOWN and you are getting married that afternoon. They will dance like their shoes are on fire.

I am not sure it is your thing, but if an Edwardian tea dress might interest you, you are more than welcome to it.

Your wedding dress is beautiful! I'd been looking for an Edwardian tea gown for ages, and they only become more and more expensive as they get older and fall apart. I will try to find something a little bit more modern, but I want you to know that your offer is generous and kind. I don't know a lot of women who would offer up their own wedding dress in an emergency. I take it as a sign of your extreme awesomeness.

I figured more modern was the way you were going. I have faith you will find a thing.

It occurs to me I might be willing to sell the Edwardian dress since I am certain I can no longer get into it without endangering its structural integrity. But probably this is not a topic to suggest while you are trying to find a dress to get married in. :D
