I have to admit that I only watched Star Trek because of: 1) Sylar with eyebrows! and, 2) I want to read ifyouweremine's pr0nLike a gazillion other people have said, it was GLORIOUS
( Read more... )
You can totally write fic for it anyway. New movie(s) = alternate universe, so you don't need prior knowledge of ToS to write fic. Also ToS I think plays streaming on cbs.com. Which I should look into, because it's the one series I never really watched any of.
I only watched a few ep.s of Capt. Picard & Data & that Klingon guy. Totally different generation.
Mm, I'll have to look into that when I get home.
New movie(s) = alternate universe
But I didn't even know crucial things like Vulcan has green blood! And that's important to know because I need to know what shade Spock turns into when he blushes X-D
I might Wikipedia the whole thing. If Star Trek has an equivalent of HP Lexicon that'd be terribly helpful...
ToS = The Original Series. Not sure why I didn't capitalize the 'o'.... lol.
Totally different generation.
Funny you should refer to it as such as it is The Next Generation. :P
Spock's still half-human, so don't go by that. I don't know much about those details myself, as I was never into TOS. I tried to start watching it but it's honestly too old for me to get into easily - - the effects aren't good enough for me to be able to immerse myself.
The Doc is Leonard McCoy; Bones is what Kirk calls him. And the entire movie is AU, so you don't need to have much background. But if you have any questions, you have at least one die-hard Trekkie on your flist. (I own all 30 seasons of existing Trek, plus movies, and there's only two seasons of that I haven't watched more than once.) I love introducing newbies to Trek, and I'll give you whatever guidance you'd like. XD
I was confused and kept on changing the name in my post above X-D I could've sworn Kirk called him Bones, but fandom prompts say McCoy...
So Kirk's the only one who calls him "Bones"? Did he introduce himself as "Leonard McCoy" then?
Whee I'd totally employ your beta services if I do get around tackling above Journey to Drabble challenge. (You should do it!)
I just remembered/realized earlier that George Takei played the original Hikaru Sulu and I went O_O "DO NOT WANT." IDK I guess because he plays soo many Asian American roles, he's almost...a carricature of himself. I know Cho played Harold, but he's still not as "household face of Asian Americans" as George Takei.
Most of the time, he introduced himself as Doctor McCoy, or Leonard in a more casual setting. Kirk called him Bones most of the time, and I don't remember anyone else (other than fandom) calling him that. I can't think of him ever referring to himself as Bones.
I will definitely check out the link. I feel way too overcommitted to HP stuff at the moment, but ST was what introduced me to fandom, what made me start writing fanfiction, and Spock will always be my first love. If there's going to be new blood pumped into it, I WILL be a part of it. It's just a matter of whether I can resist long enough to fulfill my current commitments.
Just let me know if you want anything betaed and I'll message you my e-mail.
Hee, I'm feeling exactly the same right now: madly enthusiastic and bouncy, I want to watch Spock all day long and read every piece of Kirk/Spock out there :D And I know exactly as much about Star Trek universe as you do, we should hide in shame :D
Mmm...Spock. Spock Spock Spock. 'sgonna be even better at IMAX \o/
Spock/Kirk = Spork AHAHA. Or Kock X-D
Ehh, I've never been into sci-fi before. (Vaguely liked Luke Skywalker and thought Princess Leia in the gold bikini was hot, but that's it.) I only know of pon farr because of Smallville fandom. I do want to watch the "Amok Time" ep. at least.
Did you have the Uhura/Anhora WUT reaction too? X-D
Meep. Just watched the fanvid. LeonardNimoy!Spock is hot, but I can't stand William Shatner X_x;;
I'm a hundred times more glad that they didn't include Kirk Prime >_>
I'll see if I can stand watching an entire ep. of Shatner...
(I avoid movies with actors I can't stand the look of; am shallow that way. This is why I never watched Alexander. The one time I did watch a Colin Farrell movie, it was bleh too: Miami Vice. Aaron Eckhart is the only exception to this rule; Hates his jaw & smarmy look, but enjoyed "Thank You for Smoking" and "The Dark Knight.")
1) Haha, just fascinated that you're an ST fan and you live in Iowa =D
I even have an Iowa tattoo, heh.
lol, that's v. state-triotic of you *g*
2) Oh, I meant those nifty crown thing you have on your LJ instead of the generic LJ person: saucysalamander. I've seen a lot of Merlin fans having them and am wondering if I can use it on my Dreamwidth, maybe =3
3) Hee, a lot of my plotbunnies aren't all that sane.

And while I'm youtubing, an incredibly good fanvid of K/S, the only fanvid I've ever bookmarked. *goes to watch it again*

Apparently today's my day to feel popular because you're my third new friend in 48 hours X-D
1) You're seriously from Iowa? Do they have lots of ST fans there?
2) How do you do those nifty crown icon thingies?
3) Tell me if I'm crazy.
I usually don't interrogate my new friend much. Promise.
