Why our guys decided to do it is a mystery to me, as well. i think there was some pseudo-rational explanation for it, but damn if i remember. That's not the only thing they did though. What they also did was screwing with the time zones (the deed so idiotic that it WILL come back to bite them in the ass sooner or later), and I guess that getting rid of winter time is also a part of the plan.

Screwing with the time zones?? Oh, how much fun for a really large country. *sigh* I bet the businesses are oh-so-happy about it all...

One of my favorite "political" jokes is about a terrorist holding hostage the entire parliament and threatening to release a politician every hour until his demands are met...

Yeah, we had nine time zones, now we have five. The idea is to diminish the difference between Moscow time and everywhere else time. Granted, people everywhere else are not particularly enthousiastic.
