I'd been having trouble with the preview page, went back in to start to fix things. At this point I had a bet with myself that you'd've already noticed....
Ahh, I *loved* Patricia McKillip when I was younger, tho I haven't come across anything new by her since college. The Riddle of Stars trilogy and The Forgotten Beasts of Eld were truly magical in their effect on me. Adn there was something else I read in college that was good but not quite up to those; can't recall the name of it.
And now I've read your Novik review. Still not sure if I'll give those a try; they're well down the list, at any right. Kushner, otoh, sounds like something I should check out as soon as I can. Gratzi.
McKillip had a very lean period, but some of her recent books are utterly superb. If you need to try one, it should be Alphabet of Thorn: so clever.
Kushner is on a lot of people's top ten lists, and I'm not the only LJer with a spare copy of Swordspoint which I loan to friends, because the hardcover isn't leaving the house. The same thing will happen to TPOTS when I get my small press hardcover - the post office has lost one copy already...
