Mirrormask - DVD Review

We had been looking forward to this, despite the bad reviews. Unfortunately, the reviewers were right. The visual imagination is superb, but the pacing is abysmal and the whole thing drags. The dialogue is minimal and none of the actors seem capable of delivering it with any conviction. The sound quality isn't that good, either. After a while ( Read more... )

Oh, what a shame. I'd been hoping that this would be better than some of the reviews suggested, as well. I'll still borrow it if an opportunity arises, but I think you've just tipped me over into not buying it.

Sorry to hear that. I'm a fan of the work of both McKean and Gaiman, but guess some cocktails don't mix regardless of the excellence of the individual ingredients.

I enjoyed this film, it sums up the girl's drab life and the resentments in it perfectly. Perhaps that's why it bored both of you.

For me it caught the cadence of modern teenage speech and attitudes and placed it wthin it's perfect match, a Brighton high rise. her imagined world has all the sharp edges and unformed nature of her life and views.

The only surprised is that she 'can be bothered' to save herself at the end.

No, it bored us because of a lack of plot and a lack of pacing. There was too much McKean and not enough Gaiman.
