In which I wander about in the middle of the night...

Today did not start out well. I woke up at around 2:30 am with an upset stomach, which the cats kept jumping on. Finally, after playing around on the Internets for a while, I unplugged the laptop and tried to listen to the radio. Suddenly, both the bedside light and the radio went out, though the main light was still on.

There were eight serials - eight adaptions, each with two episodes. If I remember correctly, the BBC did two adaptions (four episodes) together as a 'season', though in the States the series was shown as two seasons of eight episodes - four adaptions - each season. As far as I know, only four of those adaptaions were ever put out on DVD in the UK (though all were available as Region 1), as two separate DVDs, each with two episodes.

What's more, you just had me really worried. However, the new DVD is a complete set, well over 800 minutes. The BBC only put out The Case of the Late Pig, Death of a Ghost, Look to the Lady and Police at the Funeral in the UK.

Mystery Mile, Sweet Danger, Flowers for the Judge and Dancers in Mourning have not been previously available, according to my records, and I have been relying on my off-air tapes (and the occasional re-showing on digital.)

Living as I do in a hundred year old house with the world's trickiest wiring (and our circuit breaker box is outside to add to the hilarity), I thoroughly sympathize.

I loved Campion and have watched all of the episodes many times without falling asleep. They are some of my favourite detective stories, and the casting was perfect. Much better than the Peter Wimsey stuff.

I refuse to get excited about Moffatt - yet. A lot will depend on the situation left by RTD, pressures from the Beeb, and whether he can make the jump from being a damn good writer to a damn good producer. It is my personal opinion that not only did RTD fail to do this, but that it destroyed his own writing talent in the process. I am hopeful about Moffatt, and will be overjoyed if he does make that transition.
