I wish that I could talk to you - I remember those long conversations we used to have. But I don't feel like I have anything to say that you would want to hear. I do see you, these days, but there are always so many more interesting people around whom you know. I feel like I just can't - entertain? amuse? interest? - you anymore.
Well, originally, people used it to describe the noises cats made when they were hacking up hairballs. From there, it became an exclamation expressing dismay - not a huge leap.
I think the meaning of borrowing ideas came from one of Robert A. Heinlein's books.
Which is doubtless more than you actually wanted to know, but ... yeah. ^^
