I've been thinking about something brought up in a conversation with Doris. It hadn't been brought up during the course of the conversation itself; but brought up within my mind

I think you have a point. I think it's the attitude that this place is just a temporary thing that creates apathy. That's why people don't stick up for others as much as they should. They don't think that getting involved means anything.
Some people do get involved with others, yet still keep them at a distance from themselves by various means.
It's almost as if they feel that if you aren't from the same world then you are not worthy of knowing them.
I'm sure this isn't their intention or goal, but, just the same. This is where we all are, this is where we are living. We ought to actually live here.
Why wouldn't they be able to. We're like cattle as far as they could be concerned. And endless resurrecting source of cattle.
If people stopped thinking of this as something only temporary, as a place where they would come and go without it mattering, then maybe something would be done about all this.
Hm… you have a point. I wonder how many here would act differently if they were here permanently instead until the City for one reason or another lets them out.
I think a lot of people would be a lot different in their ways.
After I entered Ingenting, after everything sunk in and I realized that that was my life from then on, my perspective changed drastically. When you think you're not staying you take precautions to not get close to anyone. That's how all beings seem to be. If you keep someone at a distance then you can't get hurt.
At the same time, if you keep everyone at a distance, you are going to not only miss out on a great deal, but if something should happen to you the search would not be as successful because no one would know whether that sort of thing is normal. You can’t get hurt as easily, but you can’t share happiness with anyone or be saved if you ever find yourself in danger. It’s a choice that everyone must make at some point, but it isn’t one that you’re stuck with whatever option you pick the first time.

True. All beings are fragile, weather they can see such cracks within their foundation or not. I understand why one would try to hide the vulnerability, but Jean is very much correct to say that one needs to ask for help.
Beings aren't rare artifacts. When one sits upon a shelf and waits for their life to begin, they only wither and die; even if death itself is not an option. To let others in, to be with them and truly let them see yourself; that is what keeps one alive; even if the body is cold and buried.
[Private to Amanda] I may be needing information on death within The City. I think Mitsuhide has done something in order to try and keep us all safe; I think it will also fail to do so.
That's very true. Even though you may not have something forever, it does not mean you should treasure any less the time you do have it. The thing about this place is that though we do not know when we will leave, it does not always mean we will be doing so anytime soon. While some people are here for just weeks, others... well, it's been over a year and a half for me, and for some even longer. So really, people shouldn't be so quick to dismiss their time here.
Unfortunately, that is so. But I guess we just have to do what we can in the time we have, and maybe... eventually... at least one other might learn from the example.
I've always wanted to try a good kick in the pants. But we only really have hope. Even if we can't convince others, those of us who take this place as our home, for however long we are here, have to defend, mend, and help one another.
Even if it's only a few of us who give our whole heart to who we are right now, where we are right now, at least we can do something.
I suppose; sometimes that has to be enough. Funny how I still feel bitter; as if they're missing out on such a spectacular and interesting life because they refuse to understand the fact that if they create a real, tangible life here; then they can grow into something they never could before.

Everything has answers.
But not everyone deserves them.

As it stands, there are only a few of us trying.

I wish that there was some way to show others that there this; but those who don't wish to believe something won't. It's as simple as that.
