By Guy Adams and Lee Thompson
'I always said to him [John Simm] that he'd got the Tom Cruise rose in Rain Man: his job was to make what Phil does make sense....Without Sam, Gene doesn't make sense; without Gene, Sam just wouldn't be interesting enough. They compliment one another perfectly'.

Lost And Found - You two nonces are writing a book about us?
Lost And Found was an amusing set of 'interviews' conducted by the authors.
'Well, that's good then, 'cos I like pictures...Except when the dozy bastards put the staples where the tits are.
'Erm...it's not really that sort of book,' Thompson said
'No?' said Hunt
'No...no tits involved really'.
Hunt leaned in closer. 'You could've fooled me'.
Interview: Chris Skelton
'What case are you working on at the moment?' asked Thompson
'Couple of old biddies gone doo-lally at the Co-Op, one of 'em brained the other with a tin of dog food'.
Interview: Ray Carling
Phyllis [gave Ray] a scathing look as she went. He gave a pantomime shiver as she passed. 'Did someone leave a window open or did that battleaxe just open her legs?'
Interview: Gene Hunt
'Come 'ere and you can 'ave a quick hug and then Daddy's got to get back to work, okay?
'...both of you shut up, pick up your pencils and take a bit of dictation...Clever
old Gene strolls in about mid-morning, has a cup of tea...catches a few silly
bastards...bangs 'em up and gets to The Railway Arms in time for several pints...Gene
then goes to sleep. End of chapter. Any questions?'
Thompson and Adams looked at each other. Thompson slowly stuck his hand up.
'No time for questions.' Hunt smiled.

Other stuff:
Emma Rosenthal, costume designer:
'Perhaps [Sam's] subconscious makes sure he looks a bit cooler than everyone else. He doesn't wear nylon or polyester, it's cotton all the way. [Gene] has several
different shirts and suits but people don't notice that. It's difficult to see beyond the coat'.
(It's very possible we have mentally catalogued every single stitch here at
lifein1973!).
Phil on Gene's loafers:
'Those shoes are going to get a show of their own, they've got a separate contract stipulating a close up every other shot. BBCThree this autumn, watch out for it'.
John on the Cortina
'I didn't get to drive it because it was Gene's car and I didn't have one, which
is unfair! Hutch from Starsky and Hutch had a car; a knackered car but a car all the
same.
I haven't read vol2 yet, too busy looking at the pretty pics (I feel a pic spam coming on..), but this Ashes to Ashes comment is interesting:
Isn't that Gene Hunt, speeding through London in an Audi Quattro? Surely that can't be Chris in The Blitz Club wearing too much eyeliner? Or Ray's undercover moustache quivering with indignation in a gay club? And that woman there, the one with 'Property of the Metropolitan Police' stamped on her buttocks? Who is she and why is Gene Hunt looking at her?
