"I need you stay here. Make sure no one gets shot, abducted, or offs himself in the bogs, which with this lot is apparently harder than it sounds."

That line was so perfectly Gene, it was just wonderful. You've definitely captured his reaction to tough situations well: if he can't hit it, he just buries his frustration in insults and quips, and it just made him seem so very, very real here...

Chris' meeting with Sam was brilliantly done; it reminds me a lot of Chris and Sam at the very end of 1.8, where Chris admitted that he didn't understand Sam at all: Chris looks up to Sam in so many ways, but he still just doesn't get so many things about Sam, and it must be very confusing for him. I love the way that he's called Sam out in this part - after all that he's been through, he definitely deserved to say those things to Sam, and hopefully the fact that it was Chris saying it, and not Gene or Annie, will help Sam to come around.

Great stuff!

Thank you!! When I wrote the Sam/Chris scene, I kept thinking of 2.08, which I think is one of the only times we see Chris get really angry with Sam, rather than just confused but you're 100% right about 1.08. Chris tries so hard to be like Sam but he doesn't really understand why Sam sometimes acts the way he does. Chris has certainly picked a tough role model.

I could just feel Chris' disappointment with Sam. Come on, Sam, this should bring you round!

I assume Gene is going to visit Sam? Love his last line :D

Thank you! I'm glad Chris' emotions came through well. Sam's glad to have you rooting for him. :)

Just been catching up after a week offline - I'm glad Sam is getting better, though you're still keeping up the angst!

Awww, Chris! Poor dear, having to see your role model act like that. Sam needs someone to put him in his place, but I can't help feel sorry for him. He's been through so much, and he still has a lot to deal with. I'm scared he might be suffering from a case of the "Dawn-syndrome" amongst your reviewers. Never heard of the "Dawn-syndrome" you say? Not that weird, seeing as I came up with the phrase right now. It's based on Dawn from Buffy, who wasn't very well liked amongst the fans because she was considered a whiner. What the fans failed to realise was that, in the space of a couple of months, she lost both her mother and sister and her only remaining relative, her dad, didn't even come to their funerals, and when her sister returned, she ignored her completely, as did all of her sisters friends who'd become sort of a substitute family when her sister died.. She had a very good reason for whining ( ... )

I completely understand your Dawn-syndrome! I didn't watch Buffy regularly, though I still love every episode I've seen, but she always annoyed me. (Though I think it has more to do with me not really caring for Michelle Trachtenberg rather than the character.)

But Sam really is going through the same issues. I think that makes it harder for Gene to do something because he knows what Sam's been through so he knows why Sam's acting the way he is, but he still wants a way to get his old Sam back and he's not sure how.

Well, he tries something in the next chapter I just put up. Only time will tell if it works... ;)
