So clever, and yet you manage to make it look deceptively simple. This is really quite lovely and haunting. Thank you.

Thanks hon! I think it was liquoriceflame who once said that I tend to write 'moments' and I think she's right. What happened to Mrs Newton was something I wanted to explore but not in a great long fic, and this seemed an interesting route to take. I'm so glad that you enjoyed it! *hugs*

Oh, that was lovely, really. Love your take on the never-seen Mrs Newton, and her encounter with Ruth here is both comforting and strangely chilling. Just wonderful, thank you.

That's exactly what I was aiming for, so I'm thrilled that you got that from it. I felt Mrs Newton deserved a little investigation though probably no more than this, and of course that she got a friend out it - who better than Ruth?

Poignant and lovely. Especially effective with the simplicity of some of the statements e.g. No mother should ever have to visit her own child’s grave.

Well I sort of nicked that from King Theodin. But he got squashed by his horsey so I don't think he'll mind too much. And Tolkien's ghost has much more trouble it from my writing than a snaffled sentence, as well you know! Glad you liked this one. I can do poign, now and again!

Ooh - I love the way that you think up so many amazing scenarios and connections, so many things that I would never have thought of... And this is just such an amazing scenario, a great way of bridging the two timelines and showing us more of the characters that barely appeared...

And the story itself - so many little details make it so realistic, beautiful, depressing, a simple punch of hard emotion that just works so well with the scenario. Amazing.

I think it's really because these days I'm hopeless at long fics so I just hunt out details to latch onto for a moment or two!
Jolly glad to know that you felt the 'bridging of the timelines' worked - I was a little worried about the age difference between Mrs Newton and Ruth, but reckon that it is feasible. Thanks hon!

What a clean, concise, almost surgical, way to cut to the heart of the horrific emotions surrounding the loss of a child. I particularly liked having Mrs. Tyler be the "younger, stronger hand" and her "grief still raw, her loss recent."

And I really like the idea of them meeting for tea and helping each other through this.

Thank you! ♥
