Forum drama. Link goes to FanLib. Highlights:

irvinekinneas:
Further to this point, how do you know what I think about FF.Net? Personally, I think it's the (second) shittiest archieve filled with the (second) shittiest fic this side of GAFF.

bryson (moderator):

I'm trying very hard not to snicker...

There is no forums section in the TOS, and there are no rules linked anywhere else on the site.
That just baffles me. Completely. Seriously, what did they expect? They really have *no* idea about what fans are like, do they? Fans *argue*! All. The. Time. And if it gets really bad they kerfuffle. OK, so they do this in different ways in different places (f.ex. Usenet disagreements follow v. different patters from LJ ones), but still... I'm almost feeling sorry for them.

Their heads are going to explode when the 7th Harry Potter book comes out next month.

I don't even read Harry Potter books and I'm looking forward to the Potterdämmerung just for the wank.

It's going to be up in everyone's face whether they read them or not. Our grandmas will probably be aware of the Potterdammerung.

Wow. Just...wow.

Every single forum I've ever "set foot" in has rules. The first rule is always treat other users with respect. I'm not saying that always happens, but there's always a rule about it. You know, so they can actually moderate the boards and tell people they broke such in such rule.

Why would you even need a moderator if there are no rules?

Anarchy
See the trolls come posting evilly
This is not how it was s'posed to be
How could it fail so mis'rably?

Marketing
When pinkboy/blueboy ads they were running
Didn't these people realize anything
About the fans they sought to bring?

How it all went wrong they don't know, they have no clue
As bad runs to worse who can say just what they'll do-oo-oo-oo

Hosting fic
They thought to have a fine picnic
Too bad they still don't know what makes us tick
Oh Fanlib we've a bone to pick...

Yes Fanlib, we've a bone to pick.

(With apologies to Lennon and McCartney)

Imagine there's no FanLib
It's easy if you try
No ff.net below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the fangirls
Writing porn today

Imagine there's no shipwars
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to fap or wank for
And no drama too
Imagine all the fangirls
Writing porn in peace

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the internet will live as one.

Imagine no pinata ads
I wonder if you can
No need for harvester bots
A sisterhood of fen
Imagine all the fangirls
Slashing all the world

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one.
I hope someday you'll join us
And the internet will tube as one.

At one time, I was one of the co-moderators of soc.feminism (USEnet for you non-dinosaurs out there ;-). We didn't have 'rules', we had a blinkin' CHARTER. Fans or not fans, PEOPLE argue on the net. They disagree, debate, fight and go ballistic. You DO NOT open a space for net denizens to speak without FIRST laying out ground rules.

Unless you're an idiot, of course.

Especially considering that it's a commercial for-profit business.

I know it's been pointed out time and time again that they didn't think this through, but I just have to say it again. *boggles at there being no forum rules* It's like they're trying to go up in flames.

So let's see....a brand spanking new website with major public relations problems has a public forum that's moderated by a single guy who can't spell "decency" (and for that matter, is managing those forums to his personal definition of decency - whatever that)?!?

FL is doomed.

I think that bryson may be a girl.

There are other admins (David Williams is one, and the mysterious Naomi is another) but I'm not aware of any other moderators. bryson seems to be the one generally doing most of the STFU-ing.

Yah and so far, he/she seems pretty hard-headed.

And honestly, I'm thinking its a power/ego trip for this person. Hell just look at his/her signature:

= Proud Team FanLib Beta Member and Forum Moderator =
I hold the most posts of the Admin/Mod Team . . . because I'm awesome.

yah, no ego there at all...
